Bush campaign using smoke- screen tactics to avoid issues: Kerry
NEW YORK (AFP)

..
"The Bush campaign and its allies have turned to the tactics of fear and smear because they can't talk about jobs, health care, energy independence and rebuilding our alliances -- the real issues that matter to the American people," Kerry said, according to prepared remarks.

"They have no plans, no positive vision and no understanding of an urgent and undeniable truth: a stronger America begins at home."

"I am here today to call for a truthful and robust debate about our values as Americans and the fundamental choices we will make at a critical time in our history," Kerry was to declare at a New York engineering college, The Cooper Union.

"That is what this election should be about. But from the other side, we have seen a calculated effort to evade that debate." ..

2. We can pull ahead now
This is where the Kerry campaign needs to be. The Bush campaign at this point can only offer more slime, because they have nothing new to add to the important issues. Kerry has stayed above the fray and needs to stay there.

3. Here's the link to the speech (little bullets of truth)
http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/speeches/spc_2004_0824.html

...It is a choice between holding secret meetings...in the White House to rewrite our...laws, or protecting the air our children breathe and the water they drink...

The Bush campaign and its allies have turned to the tactics of fear and smear because they can’t talk about jobs, health care, energy independence, and rebuilding our alliances...

In fact, pretending to be something they’re not may be the single most consistent thing about (the GOP)...that’s what they’ve been doing all along.

I don’t believe that four years of lost jobs, lower wages, higher health care costs, higher tuitions and tax cuts for the few are the best we can do...

THESE are the things that I've wanted to hear from Kerry and his surrogates--locally AND nationally. They're concise, they're spin-retardant, they stick it to Bush without "going negative" or "stooping to his level," and the reason why is that they're fact-based. THIS is the approach that will impress the undecideds and re-energize our base!

5. Kerry could retire and not go through all this Bush slandering...he
knew with Rove behind the black hood that this was going to be ugly, but he wants to serve his country like he did years ago. He's always up for the job, unlike Georgie, always smearing and bullying his way up the hill to be king. A bunch of American thugs are running our government.
