Zell Miller perpares "zingers" for Gop Convention
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 08:03 PM by Joanne98
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Get ready for some more "Zell zingers" from the political convention in New York. But this time, a Bush will be the beneficiary, not the target.

Yes, the Zell Miller who Republicans tapped Thursday to deliver the keynote address for President Bush at their convention next month is the same one who lampooned Bush's father 12 years earlier at the Democratic convention in the same New York arena.

In 1992, Miller was Georgia's governor, famous for his Southern style and populist initiatives. Today, he's a maverick senator months away from retirement -- still a Democrat in name if not voting record.

With a recent best seller that details his political transformation, Miller's national star is still bright, even in the twilight of his career. Republicans say he's finally free to express his true views. Democrats say he's a turncoat and opportunist.

Oh No not Zell Zingers. Anything but that. We're really done for now Tonto.......

I refuse to clutter my mind with total bullshit from these lying S.O.B.s who have sent our children off to fight, kill, and be killed for a neocon agenda to fatten the pockets of the wealthy corporate pigs in this country and to flatten the ME for Israel's wicked occupation!

I'll tell you tomorrow how I really feel.

23. Do they ever kick anybody out of the party?
He certainly is an embarrassment to ours.

That's what's so pathetic about his speaking at the repiglican convention. "Finally free to express his true views", my ass. They're using his weak, cowardly nature as an example to embarrass us.

Could Zell be in the early stages of Alzheimer's?

5. Hmmmm, whoodda thunk?
"George Bush is a timid man who hears only the voices of caution and the status quo," Miller said back then. "Let's face facts: George Bush just doesn't get it, he doesn't see it, he doesn't feel it, and he's done nothing about it. That's why we cannot afford four more years."

Hmmmm.... maybe this old corpse should stay with the original message. Works for me!

Seriously, isn't it creepy that Smirky is surrounded by these weird old zombies?

25. Aimed at the middle
I think it hints that Bush is planning on making traditional values a big issue.

Aim for traditionally Democratic voters who are conservative on social issues -- churchgoing catholics, Hispanics, union workers, etc.

That's my guess anyway.

Huh? Zell tried to change Georgia's state flag to

remove the old Confederate battle flag from it. He failed in his attempt but he did try. To be honest, I remember him doing more as governor than I remember Jimmy Carter doing. So I'll defend the old Zell.

Zell was also pro-public schools and initiated Georgia's Hope Scholarship Program to help more kids go to college. He was also impressed by studies that indicated listening to Mozart improves intelligence (or concentration or something) and started a program to give the parents of every newborn in the state a tape of Mozart to play for their little one. Obviously all those programs would benefit black kids as much as white ones.

I'm as disgusted with Zell's turn to the right as anyone else, probably more so since I voted for him to remain in the Senate (he was appointed to the seat after Paul Coverdell died and had been in office only a few months when he ran for the seat.)

However, I don't think he was ever "an avowed segregationist." What have you got to back this up?

43. NO!!! You're wrong. He TALKED about changing the flag, then
when things started to get a little hot politically, he backed off. He's a wimp. He's also made numerous racial comments, like the lynching thing, and he told a group of blacks, "I appointed a bunch of you people as judges, you should like me". (not exact quote). He's a racist at heart.

No, it was Roy Barnes who stuck his neck out to get the flag changed, and lost re-election because of it. He's the hero.

I remember Anne Richards 'zingers' at poppy bush 'silver foot in mouth etc.' I loved them, the public had fits they felt they were too mean  ended up hurting the Democrats more than helping. Better watch it Zell, what goes over well at the convention can get a failing mark in the general public. :spank:
