In a scandalous tirade against new fashion trends, evangelical pastor Bishop Herro Blair warned young women that skimpy, figure-hugging clothes, were “invitations to rapists”.

And he said men who wear sagging trousers, exposing their underpants, attracting homosexuals. Labelling these trends as a sign of moral decay, Blair told a congregation at the Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre in Kingston: “The way some of you dress sickens me.”

He recalled turning a girl away from church doors because she wore a top that exposed her belly-button. “I said to her, ‘You are a prime candidate for a rapist’. It is a serious situation and nothing to laugh about.

“The way some boys are walking with their pants down on their hips means they are heading for it. Homosexuals like to see men’s bottoms.”

In other words, he's a guy who started his own "non-denominational" church, named himself "bishop" just because he felt like it, and began blathering on without having to answer to anyone.

For those of you who don't know, when a church declares itself "non-denominational," it means one of two things: 1) "We're Southern Baptists and don't want anyone to realize it, because the Southern Baptists have such a bad reputation." or 2) "We're free-lance crazies organized by some guy with no training and delusions of grandeur, and there's no one supervising us."

BTW, a bishop is supposed to be the "priest of the priests" in a given geographical area, in other words, the person the local priests report to. In the Episcopal Church, they are elected by a combination of clergy and laity. I think they're appointed by the Pope in the Roman Catholic Church. But the point is, in mainstream churches, you can't just be a bishop because you like the outfits bishops get to wear.

My born again mom always brings a copy of the local fundie rag home from church every week, the "Love Express", and a quick perusal of the upcoming events section is always good for a laugh. Some of the names these people come up for themselves are comedy gold. Off the top of my head, I've seen:

Evangelist (ok, I can understand that one, it's pretty descriptive)
Healer
Prophet (?!)
Anointed Brother/Sister

We have a lot of 'non-denominational' churches in Tulsa......they are usually pentecostal, eg Billy Joe and Sharon Doughtery's Victory Christian church/k-12 school/bible school and Carleton Pearson's Higher Dimensions.

Both churches are very large, both have programs on Trinity Broadcasting Network, and all 3 are graduates of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
