University Games Warned of Chemical Terror Alert
TAEGU, South Korea (Reuters) - Police have stepped up security at the world university games in Taegu after a tip-off on Thursday that Islamic radicals could launch a chemical weapons attack on the venues

"We received a tip from a governmental agency that the Universiade games is a possible target for an Islamic terrorist attack. All our security is on high alert," an official from the National Intelligence Service told Reuters.

1. The University Games athletes are high risk targets.
I went to the games in Buffalo/St. Catherine's back in the 90's and there was tight security there way before 911 - all bags and purses were checked - lots of state cops around. With athletic teams from all over the world there, any country can be targeted. It's really a shame because these international athletic competitions and the dedication of the athletes are the best way for countries to compete, and there was a great level of cheering for the winning athletes, wherever they came from. What a contrast - encouraging young people to be all that they can be on the athletic field, as opposed to on the killing field.

2. I hope that there are no problems...
this is another event where the symbolic but nevertheless meaningful event of North and South Korean athletes marched together. And of course the death of people is something to be avoided always.
