Earthquake shakes central Oregon Coast
I was awakened at 11:07 pm Wednesday by the shaking of my house, now determined to be a 4.7 (Richter scale) earthquake. No damage has been reported as of 7:30 am Thursday.

1. Well, that's just fun-sized.
Any injuries or propertry damage from under 5.0 would sure be anomalous. (Although I sure recall times I awoke with heart pounding when those 'little' quakes gave me a wake-up call.)

2. When I read "central Oregon coast"....
I thought the Willamette valley must have fallen into the ocean. Then I realised I wasn't under water.

3. It's unusual for the Willamette Valley ...
... to not be under some water, isn't it?

Eugene sure doesn't get the name "Emerald City" because it's dry.

5. earthquake
That is very weird, I live in Portland and had a nightmare
last night, everything was shaking like an earthquake, but we
are over 100 miles from Newport
It was very un nerving and frightening

6. I think the connections with the earth and the subconscious
are very deep and strong. We had another little quake about 6 weeks ago, and the one last night immediately took me back to the spot where I'd been then.

7. I hope that's the end of it
I'm going to the coast tomorrow. Don't want to have to use the tsunami escape routes.

9. Yeah, I was thinking about that one,
and imagining the crazy fear that all those folks in California must have felt then. And how the mind-set must be when you know it can happen to you, big-time, without warning.

10. I lived in SF at the time

It wasn't fun. At all.

Most vivid memory: looking down Market toward downtown from Van Ness at night and seeing not a single light on anywhere, just the headlights on cars.
