In Ohio, doubts remain on Kerry
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/08/16/in_ohio_doubts_remain_on_kerry/

.....wariness about Kerry was expressed by all five members of a focus group conducted by the Globe over the weekend in the heart of this fierce battleground state, the second in a series of meetings that will follow the group through the election on Nov. 2. These five, recruited earlier this summer by the Center for Policy Studies at the University of Akron Law School, were considerably more ambivalent when they met for the first time in June.

During the latest two-hour discussion, however, these likely voters -- three of whom now say they are leaning toward Bush and two who are still undecided -- described Kerry as ill-defined, overly reliant on his Vietnam service, and decidedly Northeastern. By contrast, four years in office have bought the president the benefit of the doubt among these voters. Bush has done the best he could with difficult circumstances, they said, and even Locy, so critical of him on Iraq, did not fault his handling of the economy.

I must say, these sound like people who would vote for Bush no matter what.

3. "did not fault his handling of the economy"????
What planet is she on? Ohio has taken major economic hits and this is one of the top issues in the state.

You can lead a hrse to water, but you can't make it drink;
You can send someone to college, but you can't make 'em think.

7. "people think Ohio people and this region's people are stupid"
Based on these idiots claiming they dislike Bush so much but still haven't decided who they'd vote for sort of confirms how stupid you morons are.

9. Overly reliant on Vietnam service..he is defending his service.
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 07:29 AM by kikiek
Not to mention Bush doesn't have a Vietnam service that's why they're going after Kerry's. To keep the focus off his own! Also the decidedly Northeastern makes me laugh. As opposed to decidedly fake Texan. They are too lazy to follow and keep up with current events or they'd be campaigning for Kerry. Bush's favorite kind of people. Rove is counting on the majority of the people remaining ignorant. This country had better wake up.

12. This is the big risk the Kerry camp is taking
By not explaining to voters just how bad Bush and the Republicans- and why, they leave people feeling as if "Bush has done the best he could with difficult circumstances." It's difficult to make your case and contrast your plans, if you haven't first shown people that the status quo is in serious need of change.

Speech communication 101- something the Democratic establishment must have missed in their college days, considering how they've been running their campaigns (and losing) over the past 10 years.

15. I think they have to wait until after the Republican
convention. That's why we're being hit with all these Bush ads. Kerry is on a budget now. I feel the coverage of Kerry is poor. Only a soundbite here or there unless he says something Rove can pounce on and distort.

21. The two I've seen in OR are pretty weak
and don't contrast Kerry with Bush at all. My more moderate friends think they show that the two aren't all that different- especially the "we will win and they will lose" clip. The economic one wasn't any better.

Supposedly there's one about Bush "turning the corner," but I haven't seen it play anywhere on TV.

This election is too important. I am probably too nervous and need to calm down a bit too.

23. I'm hoping that they have something planned
and that they'll be airing them around the convention and certainly afterwards.... I too am worried about the consequences of giving the Republicans a pass. I've seen it too many times.

24. I live in SW Ohio. I guess they've been watching
whatever channel they had on at Damon's, the other night, when Mr. Nownow and I had dinner. We hung out to play trivia and drink a beer. We were there a couple of hours, and I saw the 'Swift Boat Liars for Dim Son' ad about six times, and another one with President Asterisk and the First Stepford Lady at least twice. No Dem ads at all, not even from 527s like MoveOn or the state Dem party.

I think there might have been an exhibition football game on, so maybe it wouldn't have made any difference -- maybe ads for Kerry or against Bush* wouldn't have convinced anybody who was there to watch exhibition football, anyway -- but I did notice they were really hammering that SBL ad.
