Officials Extend Venezuela Poll Hours Until Midnight
CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters)

Venezuelan electoral officials on Sunday extended voting hours for the recall referendum on the rule of left-wing President Hugo Chavez until 12 a.m. to accommodate massive voter turn out.

Venezuela's National Electoral Council had earlier extended voting until 8 p.m. from the original closing time of 4 p.m.

In the past, Venezuelan polling stations have usually stayed open until 6 p.m.

Preliminary results could be released a few hours after the booths are closed if a clear tendency in the vote is apparent. ..

10. Me and many others feel it's time for Chavez to leave
The wont of the vote should confirm this needed desire.

Why would you even ask such a moronic question? Everyone I know that votes for Democrats wants the chavez dictator out of power.

18. If they 'vote Democrat' they aren't...
...citizens of Venezuela, so why would their opinion carry any more weight in an elecion in Venezuela than a citizen of, say, France have on a US election? So why was it a 'moranic question'?

7. Unless they get to vote, then re-join the line again.
I don't know who controls the process though.

14. If * wants Chavez out...
..then he probably should stay. To be fair, I haven't been following this as closely as I should have since the attempted coup.

However, if in November, * decides to ban exit polling and keeps extending voting hours (which the republicans have been doing in congress regularly to shakedown the necessary votes), I'm not sure I'd be all that thrilled about it.

And sadly, as facts have shown, Bu$h was not.

So who is the dictator?;)

And far more dangerous.

23. More dangerous, yes. More "bizzare", I'm not sure about that.
For instance, I read in 2000 about how some police in Brazil for instance walked into a union hall and just shot a labor leader in cold blood.

25. Right! - just like in 2000 here.
The evil bastards in the Venezuelan government are just allowing more time for people to vote so they can disenfranchise them - typical!

27. ASHCROFT had a fit when they extended the hours in his senate ELE.
He went all the way to court.

It shows that the poor have more rights in Venezuela than they
do here in the US!!!!

God, it would be exciting to have over 50% vote here in America!!!

29. Here's something from the Narco News blog

I have just listened to a spokesman of the so-called “Coordinadora Democratica” complain because he had to wait in line for nine hours to vote. What he didn’t mention is that in December 2002 and January 2003, his organization made Venezuelans wait in line for days to buy a few gallons of gasoline for their automobiles or canisters of gas for their cooking-stoves. Their two-month-long lockout/strike caused people to lose days of joy with their families during the end-of-the-year holiday celebrations. As they waited and waited the opposition filled the airwaves with their personal joy about the pain they were causing in the country.

The opposition sounds like our neo-cons. eek
