Ex-Aide Says He Was Victim of McGreevey
Ex-Aide Says He Was Victim of McGreevey
By LAURA MANSNERUS and DAVID KOCIENIEWSKI

Published: August 14, 2004

RENTON, Aug. 13 - A former aide to Gov. James E. McGreevey of New Jersey identified himself Friday as the man with whom the governor had an extramarital affair, but said the relationship was far from consensual.
(snip)

"While employed by one of the most powerful politicians in the country, New Jersey Governor McGreevey, I was the victim of repeated sexual advances by him," the statement said. "I was the victim whose oppressor was one of the most powerful politicians who made sure to let me know that my future was in his hands."

The statement used the word victim four times, and in it Mr. Cipel said he "did not have the strength to disentangle myself from such an oppressive environment and from such a manipulative person." He said his aim in going public was to make Mr. McGreevey "take responsibility publicly for his horrible actions, which he did by resigning from public office."
(snip)

"These are completely and totally false allegations from a person trying to exploit his relationship with the governor," said Micah Rasmussen, Mr. McGreevey's press secretary. "As the governor said yesterday, the relationship was consensual. Any suggestion otherwise is totally false."

This sounds phoney as hell. I really believe it's a set-up. Some of us are well aware that Richard M. Nixon's dirty tricks specialist, Donald Segretti articuplated the Republicans' plot to hire female flunkies to seduce vulnerable Democrats to destroy them politically all the way back in the 1960's. Why would this be such a departure?

It's entirely possible he's working for Republicans. They couldn't possibly need something like this more now than any time before, in order to try to keep the control they crave.

2. It's classic ..he said, he said.
I pretend to know nothing..but so far McGreevy has come out and said that it was consenual and resigned.

Cipel has said there was no such thing.

I take it one side or the other has proof.

17. Of course it was consensual.
Um, let's see, a P0LITICIAN makes HOMOSEXUAL advances towards you, an EMPLOYEE, and YOU DO NOT BLACKMAIL THEM, or just quit and tell the tabloids? Sure. MmmHmm.

7. If he is an American citizen he is entitled to be protected
from sexual harassment. If the accuser were a woman born in Sweden, would you have a similar comment?

He may be lying and going after money and whatever else others say here, I don't know. But he is entitled to his day in court.

9. I don't think he is an American citizen... and this has nothing to do with
the harassment.. You should be protected no matter what... But when an adult male who had a job in Israel, is brought to the US by the guy he is accusing of harassment, who (I read in DU) paid the fee for him to be able to work in the US, and gave him a job for which he is NOT QUALIFIED... hmmmmmmm... why do you think he was so willing to cooperate in all of this? McGreevey did THE WRONG THINGS in this case from day one... but harassment is not at the top of the wrongs done.

This case is really messed up.

15. He is not a citizen- He is an Israeli
that McGreevy attempted to make the
Homeland Security director in New Jersey.
Needless to say, that idea didn't fly well
in that as a non-citizen he could not
be given security clearance to view
intelligence documents.
So he was shuffled off to a lobbyist job
with a group tied to the Merck Pharma Cartel.
Merck who has significant investments in,
you guessed it- ISRAEL!
Merck, who for years has been involved in Anthrax...
Hmmm...weren't those Anthrax letters postmarked
in New Jersey?

5. What a bunch of crap!
Cipel is no 12-year-old girl who's been raped. He ought to be ashamed to make such pathetic public statements. I think he's probably out for some money, or else he's been thwarted in a blackmail attempt.

6. He's either a lover scorned or a lover being blackmailed
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 05:12 PM by rocknation
Mr. Cipel worked in state government for six months. After he resigned, Mr. McGreevey continued to help him find jobs in public relations.
But if he were scorned, he himself could have blackmailed McGreevey at ANY time since 2002. He hasn't worked for McGreevey since then, so why is he doing this NOW? Did some GOP operatives "suggest" it to Cipel in order to force a special election? If so, McGreevey has outsmarted them big time by not planning to resign until after the election!

...(T)he F.B.I. was looking into an accusation...that Mr. Cipel's lawyer...asked for $5 million to agree not to sue...
If THIS turns out to be true, the sexual harassment case is dead in the water. Why? Because McGreevey was also smart enough to say right up front that the relationship was consensual. If Cipel had been THAT much of a victim, he would be more interested in justice than money!

12. sure sounds like a set-up to me - a really badly executed one...
I may add.

but then again, look at all the unbelievable Crap that has been going on. As long as the mass media paint's Cipel as a defenceless victim, then that is how it will be.

13. I wish someone
would harass me with all these hundred thousand dollar per year jobs. If he were so harassed, why didn't he just take a few hundred bucks of his big salary and head back home. How many foreigners come here and right off the bat make that kind of money. The guv gave him one high paying job after another.

14. I don't think he's a victim at all.
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 05:57 PM by tedthebear
He could have said NO. For gods sake, he's a MAN. He sounds like a big baby. If he were a woman, that would be different.

He could have said no and if ignored, he could have hired a job discrimination (?) lawyer to protect him and his job. But this after the fact victim stuff sounds like a blackmail attempt gone bad.

:kick:

Oh, and now I read that the governor had paid to bring this guy to the US! Oh my god, how could he be a victim in THAT case? Sounds like it was consensual, OR, this guy played the governor like a fool. If I were in the jury, I would convict this self avowed "victim" for entrapment.

No wonder the governor came out publicly first! His loved one used him and probably blackmailed him. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 09:04 PM by demgrrrll
out of his accusers sails. Something about this just isn't sitting well with me. I think there is a ulterior motive and other than money I can't figure out why he is making his accusations right now rather than at the beginning of the relationship. The same amount of money would have been available after one encounter as is available now I would think. Am I missing something? This smells.
