Party-Switching La. Congressman Draws Ire, Landrieu: He's a coward
snip>
On Wednesday, Alexander registered at the start of qualifying for the 5th District race as a Democrat. Friday afternoon, the last day of qualifying for the Nov. 2 ballot, he made his switch, leaving Democrats no time to enter a strong candidate in the race.

Alexander acknowledged he had been courted by the Republicans but said the president hadn't asked him personally to make the switch.

Democrats in Washington didn't hide their feelings.

"Rodney Alexander has betrayed voters in Louisiana and leaders like (Senators) John Breaux and Mary Landrieu, who have helped him. We have no use for turncoats like Rodney Alexander in the new Democratic majority," said Kori Bernards, spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Landrieu issued a statement calling Alexander a "coward."

"The most important measure of a leader is his word, and tonight Rodney Alexander proved to the people of his district and Louisiana that his word is meaningless," she said.

1. So, what is the option here?
Can we run an independent against him? How about a write-in candidate?

7. Write-in candidacy would be the only option
But, it would never work. Write-ins very rarely are successful and all evidence suggests that, prior to this, Alexander was quite popular. Republican voters in this district are a majority and they will most likely support Alexander anyway.

The filing deadline has passed so there is no possibility for an independent to run.

2. Can you be a bigger slimeball? Well, I guess he wanted to run unopposed.
I hope they manage to make sure that doesn't happen even if it has to be a write in campaign (although that would suck).

8. Democrats played with fire and got burned - we should learn from this
He was one of those assholes who threatened to leave the party previously.

It is no surprise to some that he changed, it's just a surprise how dirty he did it - changing parties on the last day so we can't do anything about it.

This should be a wake up call to the Democratic Party to start weeding out those candidates who have more loyalty to the Republicans than the Democrats.

We only have so much money and resources, do we want to spend it on candidates who are really Republicans and could switch at any time?

We've needed to get tough on losers like Zell Miller for a long time, hopefully some good will come of this bad news.

12. Republicans vote lock-step, we should throw money to his Republican...
.. opponent to get the asswipe out of office. Maybe the other guy won't be as eager to please the Republican machinery if they go against him in the election. They obviously promised this asswipe that they would back him.
