Nader fails to make California ballot | Sacramento Bee
Nader fails to make California ballot

By Kevin Yamamura -- Bee Capitol Bureau
Published 2:15 am PDT Saturday, August 7, 2004

Famed third-party candidate Ralph Nader has failed to gather enough signatures to qualify for the California ballot as an independent after ditching his Green Party label of four years ago.

Nader had submitted slightly more than half of the 153,805 signatures required two hours before Friday's deadline, according to the secretary of state's office.

"We were not there, the last I heard," confirmed Peter Camejo, Nader's running mate and a two-time gubernatorial candidate who lives in Folsom.

The news could spell doom in the nation's biggest voting state for Nader, whom Democrats blamed for costing Democrat Al Gore the 2000 presidential election.

give me a break some of you really need to lighten up. Did I offend any military here sorry if I did.I can usually tell military from haircuts, the way they walk, the way they carry themselves, and some of them walking up and signing the voter registration forms in Dress whites, and blues kind of gave me a clue too.San Diego is a military town, and most people that live in San Diego can tell military from civilian. I'm sorry if I'm observant and can tell. Give me a break!

22. Please tell me anywhere in my post
did I say the military was 100% Republican. I looked nope don't see it, now who is assuming. I do assume that MOST of them are Republicans. I guess I assume that because I served in the military and my husband has been in for 10yrs. I would say I know the military community well. I also assume that most blacks are Democrats, am I wrong for that?.

23. oh please
read post above about uniforms and observations geesh!

There were Nader volunteers outside the military bases signing up folks. I wonder if they thought there were many Nader supporters on a Naval Base oppose to the local colleges. Now it may be silly of me to think that, but hey that's just my common sense and observation working.

Can't even qualify for the ballot in the homestate of his VP. What else do you need to know about the viability of this campaign?

If Nader at the last minute pulled out of the race and came out supporting Kerry? Think of all the $$$ and resources the Repugs would have wasted.

I know, wishful thinking. But I can dream that the once America pubic's advocate #1 would resurface, can't I? Won't hold my breath, but talk about poetic justice!

Ralph, what happened to you? Where did you go?

12. I agree. What in the world happened to him? Talk about a person
with no perspective as to the consequences of his actions. He is (has already)destroying his legacy.

I switch from extreme disappointment to rage about him depending on my mood and his current actions.

28. It would only be a hoot if his name came off all the ballots
otherwise, there is still the chance that his presence on the ballot will cause Kerry to lose a critical state.

13. I had to sweep the stardust from my daughter's eyes with regards
to Nader... seems his ideology still appeals to college age students and she was really surprised that I didn't endorse him. I had to hook her up with the truth about his 'candidacy' and where his money was really coming from. She got the picture...

Thankfully, she's a Kerry fan. She attended his rally on Wednesday and was talking about how inspiring and exciting his message was and how excited the crowd was to see him--contrary to what the press this week is saying that the enthusiasm level for Kerry has waned since the convention--to which I say "bullshit! haters!" From the pics she posted on her blog, the crowd was big and the sense of excitement was obvious.

14. Oh well, Bye Ralph
This right here means Nader's total is going to be a lot less than last time around. He got a lot of votes last time here in CA. Man, with San Francisco, Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt counties, the fact that he couldn't get on the ballot here just shows how little support there is for Nader. Don't believe the polls that show him with 4 or 5 percent. He got 2.9 percent the last time, and he isn't going to get anywhere even close to that this time. The son of a bitch probably wouldn't even be on a single state ballot if it weren't for the Republican and Reform parties.

Even though this isn't going to make a difference in the electoral vote, he is going to look even more pathetic when his final vote numbers are tallied. I'm predicting 500,000 tops, and I think I'm being generous. That's nationwide. he got almost 2.9 million last time.

15. Oh, please do sue
Yes, please spend all that campaign cash on lawyers, filing fees and court costs. That makes that much less money for him to spend on a real campaign.

25. What assholes.
They can't get 150,000 signatures in a State of 35+ million people. And the turds want to weasel their way in through lawsuits or by unseating Cobb. This is the true face of Nader. He's a litigious weasel that never ever had the public good at the core of his doings.

It has always been all about Ralph.

27. Yes Nader is pathetic
If he would go as far as a lawsuit. I bet it surprised Nader that he didn't get on the ballot in California. At first I was surprised, because California is a pretty liberal state. ( oh oh was that a blanket statement). Then I realized that most liberals just want this nightmare to end. Swing state or not, the more ballots Nader isn't on the better.

Um, didn't the Greens ditch him when they gave their nomination to David Cobb?

Sloppy -- if not outright biased -- journalism is becoming nearly as prevalent as fast food...
