Britain will always be an enemy, says Mugabe
By Stella Mapenzauswa

Harare - Zimbabwe will always regard former colonial ruler Britain as an enemy, President Robert Mugabe said on Friday in a speech that also took a swipe at a leading clergyman who has been an outspoken critic of his government.

Mugabe has clashed with the government of British Prime Minister Tony Blair mainly over his seizure of white-owned farms for redistribution to blacks he says were dispossessed of their land during white colonial rule.

Speaking at the state funeral of war veteran Mark Dube on Friday, Mugabe singled out outspoken Catholic Archbishop Pius Ncube of Bulawayo as being among opponents he said were aligned with Britain in working to topple his administration.

1. Gag
Mugabe is a worthless excuse for a human being who should hang from the same gallows as Saddam. The sooner he's gone the better.

2. Mugabe will always be an enemy
unless he learns to respect the human rights of others.

6. Indeed.
What's amazing is that we have Mugabe apologists on this forum who will attack us for attacking Mugabe.

3. Old political trick.
When things are really bad, turn the people's anger on to someone
else.

Whatever the faults of the colonial past, it's not Britain that's
redistributing the farms to Mugabe's friends. But let's not think
about that.

4. Should the farms not have been redistributed?
Or do you just not like the recipients?

7. So what is so evil about Mugabe's corruption and cronyism...
in comparison say, to Bush and Blair's corruption (invading Iraq for example)?

8. The way he deals with people who oppose him
We are free to dicuss how much we oppose Bush and Blair. Its fairly certain that we will not be murdered, tortured or anally raped by a member of the GOP as a result of a thread here or a discussion in a bar.

We have the ability to make sure that Bush and Blair loose their jobs in due course and we don't risk our lives in doing so.

Iraq has happened, but we can make sure Kerry is the one that makes the best out of this bad situation.

9. Mugabe's involvement in the DRC
looks remarkably like that of the USA in Iraq:
"Instead, there are signs that Harare is pouring money into the war with the hope of reaping longer-term financial rewards from its relationship with DR Congo.

Some observers have suggested that the main beneficiaries will be a group of people associated with the army and the government rather than the national economy.

In September, Zimbabwe announced joint business ventures with DR Congo including diamond and gold dealing, to add to the war chest of both countries.

"Instead of our army in the DRC burdening the treasury for more resources, which are not available, it embarks on viable projects for the sake of generating the necessary revenue," Defence Minister Moven Mahachi said.

The official Herald newspaper said two companies based in Zimbabwe and DR Congo would be granted licences to buy and sell diamonds and gold, and would set up offices manned by military officers."

His youth training camps look particularly evil.

"In their training camps the Zimbabwean government is subjecting thousands of innocent youths to rape, brainwashing and brutality. It is all part of an horrific process designed to mould youths loyal to Robert Mugabe and his ZANU party."

10. That's rather a spurious argument.
You might as well say one corrupt ruler provides the excuse for all
the others.

I don't disagree with land being redistributed, but let it go to the
truly deserving, and let the handovers be made in a sensible way,
with the new owners being taught how to farm properly. What we have
now is Mugabe's mates, already making money from government or
the military taking over without a clue how to manage, and the
country has its worst famine ever.

The Opposition supporters of course get nothing.

This is no democracy.
