Rep. Ford, from Baghdad, says America must remain steady despite bombing
Rep. Ford, from Baghdad, says America must remain steady despite bombing
August 19, 2003

U.S. Rep. Harold Ford, visiting Baghdad when the UN headquarters was bombed, said the spirit of Americans remains high.

"We must move forward. We have entered this and must finish," Ford said.

The representative said he was in an undisclosed safe location at the time of the bombing. He was about to leave Baghdad when he gave an interview to CNN.

He expressed his sympathy to families of those killed and wounded at the Canal Hotel. (snip/...)

Hell do you know when "we" are finished?

When all the oil is gone?

The qeustion also could be "what are we doing over there?"

2. How convenient. . .
from "an undisclosed safe location," as he's "about to leave" the country, our brave servant talks tough and speaks of finishing that with which he has no personal involvement.

. . . Sigh . . .

3. I heard what Ford said.
He said something like because this just happened he will make his detailed comments when he gets back. He also said something about this proves that we need to turn Iraq over to the international authorities.

He didn't say he was hiding in an undisclosed location. The reporter asked him where he was. He said he wouldn't say, which sounded perfectly reasonable to me, considering all the terrorists running around.

What a shitty piece of reporting by that newspaper. And the message to his mother was to tell her he was safe, because people thought the delegation was inside the building. They were not.

4. O.K., just learned Jim Kolbe is there, too
(snip) Other House and Senate members _ including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz. _ were in Baghdad touring military sites when the explosion happened. None of them was injured, officials said. (snip/...)

5. National treasure and genius, John Sununu checks in from Baghdad
(snip) CONCORD, N.H. (AP) The suicide attack on United Nations offices in Baghdad shows that extremists will attack anyone who is working for democracy and stability in Iraq, Sen. John E. Sununu said Tuesday by telephone from Baghdad.

New Hampshire's junior senator was part of a congressional delegation in the Iraqi capital when the bomb went off at a hotel across the city.

''The extremists who are undertaking this activity are reaching out at all kinds of targets, any outside force that is trying to work for a stronger government and stronger economy for the Iraqi people,'' Sununu said. (snip/...)

7. I'm So TIRED of Harold Ford
When do you suppose he'll switch to the GOP and take over the now-empty spot (since JC Watts retired) of black leader of Republicans?
