Bush Courts Catholics, Promises on Social Issues
DALLAS (Reuters) - President Bush promised on Tuesday to fight in a second term for conservative social causes -- from a ban on gay marriage and human cloning to limits on abortion rights -- as he appealed to Catholic voters to support him, a Methodist, over John Kerry, a Catholic.

Billed as a nonpartisan gathering of the world's largest lay Catholic organization, the Knights of Columbus greeted Bush with standing ovations and shouts of "Four more years."

Supreme Knight Carl Anderson praised the president for opposing abortion rights and gay marriage. "Thank you for restoring moral integrity to the office of the president," he said.

Bush touted the power of prayer and the "Almighty God" and decried "a culture inside government which resents and fears religious charities," and he said, "We're changing that."
...
He pointed to legislation he signed into law criminalizing a procedure that doctors call "intact dilation" and opponents call "partial-birth" abortion -- because it may involve partially removing a fetus from its mother's womb to terminate it.
"This law is urgently needed and my administration will vigorously defend it in the courts," Bush said.

He also said he would press ahead with the fight to amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as a union strictly between a man and a woman.

9. I wonder if these Sick Fuckers loved the executions he performed
These "RELIGIOUS FUCKERS" are instruments of the DEVIL himself.

I'll bet they achieved arousal after seeing pictures of dark men hanged by mobs and other men barbecued in electric chairs.

OK right wingers --lets debate.

11. This is really sick. Most evangelicals think Catholicism is a cult.

I used to attend an evangelical church with my in-laws and they categorize Catholics, Mormons, and Jehova Witnesses as cults and just a notch above Islam.

3. Perhaps Carl ought to check with his spiritual leader

the Pope, who opposed the invasion of Iraq, before he bestows the praise of moral integrity so freely.

4. I remember 1960
when there was a whispering campaign against Kennedy - "we can't elect a Catholic - think of the influence the Pope will have on US politics." Now, Bushco is actively working to tear down the wall between church and state. The leaked papal document, posted elsewhere in DU today about the evils of feminism should certainly help Bushco be a uniter, not a divider.

5. all of the "knights" the males, who perceive themselves the dominant sex
males, are out to control women.

They fear women's blood.
They fear women's sex.
They fear women.

The best thing to do is to hold them hostage, financially, socially and in some cases physically

6. I wonder if he flew to Bob Jones University next..
to assure them that addressing a Catholic group was just a political ploy. (BJU's founder and subsequent President were so anti-Catholic that it bordered on insanity, although Bob Jones III says those days are over.) Also, I believe that the K of C are a known conservative group comprised only of men. I doubt there were a lot of swing voters there to begin with.

8. Social promise- to destroy Social Security
to destroy the public education system and make education the reserve of elites, to ensure that only those who can afford outrageous medical insurance rates get half baked medical care, and to undermine workers rights and standards of living wherever possible.

15. He will fight for stereotypical Catholic issues.
Nothing like harnessing the power of the Papacy to forward a political agenda. George W. Bush is a truck stop whore - willing to do anything for the next ride.

Consider the policies that he heretofore promoted as an evangelical Christian, not as an American Catholic, not even a Papist.

Funny thing, though. I know many Catholics who received a parochial school education that honed their critical thinking skills. So it should be no problem for them to see through this pig-in-a-poke sham.
