BOSTON - Just hours after accepting the Democratic nomination for vice president, John Edwards yesterday woke up a bleary-eyed Ohio delegation, declaring the state "ground zero'' for the 2004 presidential election.
"It's not an accident that George Bush and Dick Cheney are spending so much time in Ohio as they have,'' he said. "It's not an accident that John Kerry and I intend to spend enormous time in the state of Ohio.''
The six-minute speech by the U.S. senator and trial lawyer at the delegation's breakfast meeting was yet another sign that Ohio, which narrowly voted for George W. Bush in 2000, is the campaign's top priority for taking back the White House in 2004.
Hours earlier, Ohio was handed the honor of putting John Kerry's presidential nomination over the top by casting all 159 of its delegate votes.
