Bell Lashes DeLay on DNC Stage
Soon-To-Be Ousted Congressman Encouraged To Seek Higher Office
The Texas Democratic delegation lauded U.S. Rep. Chris Bell of Houston on Tuesday and urged the lame duck congressman to seek higher office, illustrating the party's contempt toward Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Bell, who addressed the delegation at a Tuesday morning breakfast, lost his primary race in March after his district was altered by a state-redistricting plan engineered by DeLay.

"Tom DeLay is the most corrupt politician in America today," he told the group, eliciting a standing ovation.

Bell filed a complaint with the House ethics committee last month accusing DeLay of misusing his office to raise money for Republicans and to funnel government resources against Democrats. A Travis County grand jury also is investigating possible violations of state campaign finance law linked to DeLay during the 2002 state legislative elections.

5. It's hard to argue with that.

"'Tom DeLay is the most corrupt politician in America today,' he told the group, eliciting a standing ovation."

DeLay pretty much typifies the absolute worst in politics today -- ignorance, cruelty, selfishness, manipulation, a win-at-all-costs mentality, self-absorption and just plain bad manners. This is the guy who brought us the Texas redistricting scandal, cheap shots at bilingual Americans, cheap shots at veterans (i.e., disparaging Ted Kennedy while glorifying Bush's strut in flight suit on the Abraham Lincoln. The only problem is that Kennedy and all of his brothers were in the service, and one died in war.).

DeLay's like a sort of horrible plumbing problem. Things are going to run much more smoothly when he has been removed.
