Prisoners urge jail term review - Bahrain
Dozens of prisoners in Bahrain's biggest jail, who are well into their 12-day hunger strike, yesterday appealed to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to review their sentences, as their representatives met with members of the parliament and officials from the Ministry of Interior in a fresh attempt to end the strike.

A letter was presented to the royal court by families of the more than 200 convicts, who are now in control of the police building in block four of the Jaw prison, appealing to King Hamad to order a review of the sentences, a brother of one of the prisoners told Gulf News on condition of anonymity.

The prisoners are also asking the ministry to allow an "independent committee" to investigate the conditions in the prison. However, the ministry refused, a human rights activist said.
