Social Conservatives Want More of Their Own to Speak at the G.O.P. Convent
Some prominent conservatives say they are upset at the apparent exclusion of the champions of their favorite issues from the limelight of the Republican convention in favor of more moderate members of the party.
Conservatives said they were surprised to see former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and Senator John McCain of Arizona - all moderate Republicans who oppose the proposed constitutional amendment blocking same-sex marriage - given high-profile roles at the convention, with few conservative Republicans on the list.
If I had the choice between legislation to roll back FCC deregulation, and watching Howard Dean address the Dem convention, I'd choose the legislation.
Buchanon, whose speech seemed to be too revealing of the darker side of the party in 1992, sounds down right moderate on many issues - compared to the reactionaries currently running the show.
never helps a party. They showcased the far right in 1992 and look where that got them. surely, georgie remembers that. But the pressure on him is good.
What worries me is the chaos in the streets of NYC. I fear the repug convention of 2004 could bear much resemblance to the Chicago Dem convention of 1968.
...that they know main stream America rejects their right wing agenda on cultural issues....so they put on a show with more likeable folks. This is why we don't have to worry about Bush replacing Cheney with one of these folks - the 'moderates' are considered to be too liberal for their own party.
Sing to the choir, Ashcroft!! Give Falwell the Mic!! Delay needs to get in on it, too! Rush should be MCing this little rightwing lovefest, and Mike "Savage" Wiener should do some stand up!
should I send a letter to my puke rep, a moderate by the way, and demand someone like Sanctorectum to speak in primetime? The more sunlight on this philosophy, the better. Kinda like Ann Coulter.
