Nigeria refuses to hand over Taylor
Last Update: Thursday, August 14, 2003. 8:02am (AEST)
Nigeria refuses to hand over Taylor

Nigeria is rejecting calls by the United States to hand over the former Liberian President Charles Taylor, who has been indicted on war crimes charges.

The Nigerian Government has said it will not extradite Mr Taylor, who accepted an offer of exile earlier this week.

The US is calling on Nigeria to hand over Mr Taylor to a United Nations-backed tribunal in Sierra Leone.

Mr Taylor arrived in Nigeria on Monday after resigning from office.

1. Quid pro quo
They get Charles Taylor when the U.S. turns over George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, et. al.!

ALL of these criminals should be tried for war crimes!

(Not you, JudiLyn)
What the hell did the US expect? That egomaniacal Taylor would go somewhere that would hand him over?

The US facilitated Taylor's move to Nigeria. This is just posturing by the State Department.

And they want him handed over to the evil UN? HAHAHAHAHA

5. Anyone want to wager on...
...how long it will be before I get email from one of Taylor's relatives, promising tens of millions of dollars in exchange for my bank account numbers?

I'm guessing about 4 days.

I'm wondering what kind of nest egg Taylor brought with him. The article says he was given a mansion near Calabar. 'Given' probably isn't the most accurate word choice there.
