GOP rolls out speaker list for convention

WASHINGTON, June 28 (UPI) -- The Republican National Committee Monday announced its initial line-up of nine speakers for the presidential convention, scheduled for late August.

Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynn, are scheduled to speak, along with first lady Laura Bush.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will offer the opening address Monday, to be followed by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the RNC said. Tuesday will feature the first lady, Education Secretary Rod Paige and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Cheneys and Sen. Zell Miller, D-Ga., will speak on Wednesday, while New York Gov. George Pataki will introduce Bush on Thursday before he accepts the party's nomination.

6. This feels like good news
Absolutely no one that people would be eager to hear. A big yawn fest going to do little to vitalize anyone.

5. Who's the bigger scum: John McCain or Zell Miller?
McCain is scum because Bush humilitated him in the 2000 primaries, then went on to lead America to oblivion. Miller is scum because he is supposed to be a democrat.

22. Zell is the bigger scum by FAR!
Listen to him some time....if you can manage. He's not only supporting the Shrub, but he continually slams ALL Dems for everything!

I know lots of you hate McCain, but every time I hear him, he never is slamming the opposition. I realize he is supporting the Shrub, but I think that's primarily because he believes he's a Pub and won't change that. At least he's not slime like almost all the rest!

Think the Bushie* crew might come out of this convention in the negative. Maybe Kerry will get a bounce from their convention!

10. Notice Only Women Are Wives/Spouses

All white middle age/older man except Paige.

Notice who is not speaking. No Ashcroft, no Powell.

Seems abnormal to have Lynn speak.

16. Good point. No elected Republican women. No Olympia Snowe.
No young person who represents the "future" of the Republican Party. Youngest person and only person of color is Rod "Teachers are Terrorists" Paige.

They shot themselves in the foot again.

And you thought the 1992 RNC Convention was the low point in the history of staged events? Just wait until this September!

13. No Tom Delay? No Falwell? No Robertson?
None of the far-right extremists we're constantly subjected to all over the airwaves?
Just these moderate-appearing Repukes, or even Democrats (sort of)?
Just another effort to pretend that they are moderate, reasonable people, instead of far-right religious zealots and tyrants.
And of course, the network hairdos will gobble it up, and read off the script like they were hosting a Thanksgiving parade instead
of a Nazi rally.

And before you chide for the Nazi reference, I am a member of the coaltion of the wild-eyed (and have been since election night, 2000).

15. They muzzled Delay, Falwell, Robertson & the rest of the far right in 2000
In order to dupe undecideds & moderates into thinking Smirk really was a moderate Republican. The speaker selection is designed to "reach out" to moderates as well. Governator Gropenfuehrer especially, who agressively markets himself as a moderate.

The fact that Aaaaanold is speaking at the GOP convention is a bad sign for 2008. Get ready for another round of GOP Senators trying to change the constitution so that naturalized Americans can run for President.

25. I'm glad they gaged the trio. I agree they might try the ammendment.
Changing the constitution was floated several months ago, but I don't think it got much support. I think it would take such a long time to even get a Constitutional ammendment passed, you're talking beyond 2008.

I don't intend to listen to the Pub convention. The only 2 speakers I could possibly force myself to listen to would be Rudy and McCain. If there's nothing else on TV, and I get desparate, I might try them, but the rest of the Conv., I can't bear to deal with. I can't afford a new TV, and the others could cause me to damage mine.

24. Exactly what I thought...
Pataki, Guiliani, McCain & Schwartzeneger....4 of the more moderate Repubs, who could never get nominated for Prez.

Oh the hypocrisy!!! These 4 are not in the mainstream Taliban wing.

26. If Maria Shriver goes to the GOP Convention
I think her family should disown her. She is a disgrace. You cannot dance at two weddings and you cannot attend a gop convention in support of the opposition and still claim to be a Democrat. And please don't anyone come up with that crap about her supporting her so called "husband". Most of us would NOT support our spouses if we knew they were doing major harm to the country. Marriage vows haven't anything to do with political affiliation, and I do think they are equally important. No polotics is MORE important. Politics effect the world .your marriage is only about you. This really yurns my stomach!

She might introduce him. Hell, she's a better speaker than just about anyone they have lined up. They might give her a slot of her own.

29. Amen to that, saracat.
We need to ask her where to send the 30 pieces of silver. One of the creepiest things I've seen lately is footage of her from the recall race. She was doing the affronted wife look (a mixture of anger, agitation and hurt) for the cameras while Arschloch Nummer eins was holding forth on how he was being falsely accused by various women. Oh, PLEASE. :puke:

27. In 2000 there were 12 official speakers
I think you can expect a few additions. If 2000 is any guide, a couple of women and a minority, perhaps. I also wouldn't be at all surprised to see Koch speak. New York is going to Kerry no mtter what but Koch is the New York Mayor that a lot of retired Florida Jewish voters remember and may still listen to.

The other question is, will there be protests and, if there are, whose advantage will they play to?
