Senate Votes to Force Bush to Report to Congress on Iraq Progress
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate voted Wednesday to require President Bush to report to the Republican-controlled Congress on his efforts to stabilize Iraq, but he won't have to estimate how many American troops will remain in the violence-plagued country.
Senators rejected that measure, along with another provision to lowered the retirement age for National Guard and reservists from 60 to 55.

Those issues were in amendments to a massive defense authorization bill for the coming year, which senators were trying to finish before next week's recess.

On Tuesday, senators rejected a proposal that would have taken money from Bush's proposed missile defense budget for use on such tasks as securing "loose nukes" - nuclear bomb material around the world that could fall into the hands of terrorists - and policing America's ports and borders. The plan would have shifted $515 million from the $10.2 billion missile defense budget.

3. I'm not happy. They're not trying to secure loose bomb material ...

... and they're not enhancing port security. :(

4. Don't mis-interpret...
My post above refers to another of C Shine's posts.

The boneheaded decisions that Congress make boggle my mind - and then I remember who's in the majority and it all makes sense.

2. FYI - Lieberman voted
against the amendment to force bush* to report to Congress on efforts to stabilize Iraq, estimates on how long the troops would be there, and reconstruction efforts.

Of course, Zell Miller did too.

5. What happened to Smirk's promise to report to the PEOPLE. . .
on our "progress" in Iraq? Remember: A talk a week, leading up the transfer of power on June 30. We had one bullshit recap that anyone who'd half-assed followed the news was not enlightened by, then nada. And now the Senate wants a report? 18 months too late, ya ask me.

7. Oh yeah, the five "talks"
I think he did two and they bombed so badly and network TV ignored them, so I guess...........it just....faded......away.

8. I don't think he even did two, Jacobin. . .

I think it was just that one terribly ill-received spill of swill, then nothing.

But hey, in a way I'm not disappointed. This group has such a miserable record of following through on their plans (anyone for a Mission to Mars?) I take heart they'll probably not accomplish all their plans to remove our liberties.

9. Another flip-flop from Bush
Golly, you'd think the librul media would be all over the White House about this! I mean, this was a promise from May 21, not some dim, dark time six months or a couple of years ago.
