Senate Backs Ban on Photos of G.I. Coffins
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 11:03 PM by tedthebear
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/22/politics/22cong.html

WASHINGTON, June 21 - The Bush administration's policy of barring news photographs of the flag-covered coffins of service members killed in Iraq won the backing of the Republican-controlled Senate on Monday, when lawmakers defeated a Democratic measure to instruct the Pentagon to allow pictures.

The 54-to-39 vote came after little formal debate, with 7 Democrats joining 47 Republicans to defeat the provision.

McCain actually voted for allowing photos. Anyone know who the fascist Democrats were? I bet Lieberman was one of them.

12. There were two votes.
The 54-39 was the Lautenberg amendment and the 52-38 was the Warner amendment.

13. So Kerry and Clinton decided to dodge his one.
That is soooooooo typical of Mr. Kerry. He is terrified of taking a stand that might make him look too liberal. What a jerk!

Oh I forgot. He's on another vacation at his chic Hyannis Port retreat. He sure takes a lot of vacations while running for office doesn't he?

25. So did Daschle and Feinstein ... maybe they're finally listening to us?
Hillary is still disappointing me.

We've (progressive left) got to start electing progressives politicians
and holding them accountable.

I believe that part of the reason "DiFi" voted 'Nay' is due to pressure that we've put on her.

10. I'll bet 5 of the 7 are up for reelection with GOP opponents
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 11:17 PM by Gman
Except Lieberman and Miller. That leaves 5. So, I have to ask "Why?". Just what votes do these 5 think they're going to lose that they have by voting to allow the pics? And that's the real reason they voted not to allow the pics, they're scared to death of getting tattooed with it in November. The time is finished for being scared. 2002 was the big year they were scared. We can't afford scared Senators anymore.

19. Okay. Be sure to tell me what "my bill" is when you see it.
I think it's more like Mr. Daschle is allowing Dems to vote how they want if the issue isn't vital. Choose your battles.

You could still be right though. I'd just like to know when the call is made.

20. Oh, great,. Now we have the U.S.Senate setting editorial policy...
...for U.S. news organizations by majority vote.
Further evidence the end is near.
I wonder if any of the 'yea' votes considered that they were trampling on the first amendment?
of course, Normie Coleman doesn't want you to see the coffins...
