Candidate Ryan says he won't quit over sex charges
Republican Senate candidate Jack Ryan pressured his wife, actress Jeri Lynn Ryan, to have sex in clubs while others watched, she charged in divorce documents released Monday.

The "Boston Public" and "Star Trek: Voyager" actress said she angered Ryan by refusing. She did acknowledge infidelity on her part, which she said took place after their marriage was irretrievably broken.

In the documents Ryan denied the allegations, saying he had been "faithful and loyal" to his wife.

In a news conference held after the documents were released, Ryan repeatedly refused to comment on the allegations, saying his response in the court papers spoke for itself and that he would not discuss them again.

"It's not helpful for my son or for she or me to reopen this allegations," Ryan said. "I am sticking by the exact things I said five years ago."

33. I hope not...he'd be tough
I lived in IL during his tenure. The guy reminds a lot of Pataki...pretty much a total zero in terms of historical impact, but nothing glaringly wrong with him, so he easily wins elections.

I think Edgar would be a helluva lot tougher for Obama than Lyin' Ryan. Even still, Obama is a very good candidate, and he will be helped significantly by the anti-Bush bump, much like Mosely-Braun benefited from in '92.

13. My poor teenage nephew will be crushed!
He had the most terrible crush on Jeri Ryan when she was on STV. My nephew is very bright (pre-med) but naive. He thought she must really be smart until he saw her performance on celebrity Jeopardy and she couldn't tell the difference between a mammal and a reptile, and then his dreams were dashed.

16. Hard to know what to make of it
"In a statement released Monday, Jeri Lynn Ryan made no mention of the allegations, but said she now considers Ryan a good man and loving father."

- He said/She said nastiness of divorce proceedings?
- The Republican Borg got to her?
- One or both of them are liars?

If she is not too bright, she hid it well on ST-V. But I guess actors can fake more intelligence than they have, if someone is feeding them good lines. Reminds me of someone else.

45. OK, she always seemed intelligent
It is just another poster said she messed up on a game show, not knowing the difference between a mammal and a reptile. Of course, she went into show biz, so that distinction may have become blurred after graduation.

I wonder if they had a pre-nup and these claims and counter-claims aren't somehow related to that. I guess you would have to be up on the intricacies of the divorce laws to know.

47. the most important thing in this is....
The most important thing about this is that Ryan lied about what was in the files. He indicated that there was nothing damaging in them.

It doesn't matter whether the claims are true or not - he claimed that stuff wouldn't be there when it was.

Illinois GOP is toast anyway. Ryan was one of the most conservative candidates in the race, and I don't think a lot of the Illinois GOP-ers like that type of conservatism. I don't think moving back toward the center is going to help them - the angry white guy vote is the only card they can play anymore.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that Rove wrote off Illinois as hopeless.

I don't see why the pols are shocked about this - this story was all over the 'net about three months ago - does anyone remember reading it? I wonder who leaked it.....

I'm not worried about this, really. The Illinois GOP is in enough trouble as it is.

39. Conservative WLS Talk Show So Funny Right Now
Don Wade and his pretend liberal wife Roma are falling all over themselves on their radio program trying to say how this was okay. "No infidelity on the part of Mr. Ryan." "Clinton's sex with intern was worse". "Ryan was hiding this ONLY to protect his son". "BLAH HYPOCRISY BLAH BULLSHIT BLAH FAMILY VALUES OUT THE WINDOW BLAH BLAH BLAH". These fucking repugs make me sick. First they spend dozens of millions of dollars studying Pres. Clinton's dick because of "family values", then they suddenly don't care when it's one of their own. Don't get me wrong, I could care less what Ryan did. That's between him and his wife. But if you're gonna be in a political party that "supposedly" won't put up with this behavior then you have suffer the consequences.
