Bush's Latham criticism wrong: poll
"US President George Bush should not have criticised Mark Latham's pledge to bring Australian troops home by Christmas, results from a new opinion poll show.

The ACNielsen Poll, published in The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, showed 56 per cent of those interviewed believed Mr Bush was wrong to comment on Australia's politics.

Only 29 per cent agreed he should have interjected."

2. Labor, Latham make a comeback: poll

An opinion poll shows the Labor Party and its leader Mark Latham have recovered from a post-Budget drop, it was reported.

The Australian newspaper said the ALP had neutralised a 10-point deficit on the primary vote since recruiting former Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett and as a result the chances of the government calling an August election had dimmed.

The Newspoll showed Labor stood equal with the coalition with 43 per cent each of the primary vote.

On a two-party preferred basis, 52 per cent of those interviewed backed the ALP compared with 48 per cent for the Howard government.
