Alleged Johnson kidnapping ringleader has been killed - CNN
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 05:24 PM by Wonk
Al Arabiya is reporting that Abdel Aziz Al Muqrin (top Saudi Arabian Al Qaeda) has been killed, but CNN says they haven't confirmed his death yet.

I'll post more when I find a link.

edit:
http://www.asianews.it/view.php?l=en&art=1000
(snip)
In the video that shows Paul Johnson, the American citizen held captive by the terrorists, Abdel Aziz al-Muqrin introduces himself as the leader of the terrorist organisation in Saudi Arabia.

edit: 5:07 pm
CNN now says they have confirmed the story.

edit: 5:24 pm

(snip)

Abdel Aziz al-Muqrin, the leader of al Qaeda's cell in Saudi Arabia, was killed, Saudi security sources told CNN.

He was killed while disposing of Johnson's body, the Arabic-language television network Al-Arabiya reported.

19. Too quick
I think the SA officials may have taken a cue from Casablanca and simply rounded up the usual suspects.

Since there is a large pro-OBL faction within the royal family, they've had little will to go after their terrorist infrastructure.

There are a number of ways to hide or discreetly dispose of a corpse. These people who demonstrate moral depravity and lack of conscience would have no qulams hacking apart a corpse in order to dispose of it discreetly.

72. Turns out that Al-Jazeera story was closer to the truth...
The first report from the Al-Aribya news was that the killers were captured while trying to dispose of the body. Now all the news outlets are reporting that the Saudis are searching for the body. If the body was present when the alleged kidnappers were killed, how did they lose the body? Al-Jazeera story included nothing about the people being killed while disposing of the body.

64. well, if it is true that they found them when....
they were disposing of Johnson's body, then odds are pretty good that they were a) either somehow involved with his kidnappers, or b) worked for the local "Dump-a-body" service.

It's not like your average innocent person would find the body, throw it in the car, drive it around for a while, and then discard it, unless they were in some kind of necropheliac cruising club.
