Putin Says Russia Warned U.S. on Saddam
Fri Jun 18, 2004 09:34 AM ET

By Raushan Nurshayeva

ASTANA, Kazakhstan (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin, in comments sure to help President Bush, declared Friday that Russia knew Iraq's Saddam Hussein had planned terror attacks on U.S. soil and had warned Washington.

Putin said Russian intelligence had been told on several occasions that Saddam's special forces were preparing to attack U.S. targets inside and outside the United States.

"After the events of September 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, Russian special services several times received information that the official services of the Saddam regime were preparing 'terrorist acts' on the United States and beyond its borders," he told reporters.

"This information was passed on to our American colleagues," he said. He added, however, that Russian intelligence had no proof that Saddam's agents had been involved in any particular attack....

By Raushan Nurshayeva

ASTANA (Reuters) - Russia warned the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks that Iraq's Saddam Hussein planned to hit targets on U.S. soil, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday.
<snip>
"This information was passed on to our American colleagues," he said. He added, however, that Russian intelligence had no proof that Saddam's agents had been involved in any particular attack.

State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters he did not know anything about the information that Putin said Russia passed on. No such information was communicated from Russia through the State Department, he said.

"Everybody's scratching their heads," said one State Department official, who asked not to be named....

Yeah -- it puzzles me too! Something cookin' between Putin and Bush???

Yes the timing and the content stinks to high heaven. That warning must have been a total secret too being as how no one remembers receiving it.

This part restates the obvious motivation rather succinctly : "The Kremlin's leader's comments seemed certain to bolster Bush"

4. To help Bush is to screw Soros
And is a pretty good idea to boot.
If you want to set up America, you have an interest in
having them be led by a sociopath and/or a cretin.

5. A good strategy works in many ways.
And Pooty-poot gets brownie points too.

There is no revenge sweeter than when the victim
knows he's been fucked, and he thinks you might have
had something to do with it, but he's totally unable
to grasp how you might have carried it out.

16. Multi dimensional, multi problem solutions based
on basic principles in which failure in one particular may lead to a success on another problem. The key is to use independent clients to achieve descrete goals, so that only one goal/client is compromised by failure.

The trouble is, of course, that the CIA is not the only multi level strategist in the game.
Though in many cases they trained them.

Just in case you wonder why we no longer have allies... for strategic purposes, they are all clients. This is an innovation GW Bush supported, and Rove adapted. This was game theory developed to win a cold war, but ironically, it creates a worse problem. It used to be called the crediblity gap, but I think it has progressed under the Bush dynasties to moral bankruptcy and an effective force for evil in the world.

6. this has already been thorougly debunked
on a bunch of threads here, with quotes from Putin from 2001, 2002 and 2003 where he said there was no link with AQ, no link with terrorists, that he was totally against the US attack on Iraq, etc.

Putin and Bush are soulmates. They both lie through their teeth.

I don't know why this is even being reported as a straight story rather than as the bullship propaganda that it is.

13. Russian 'warning' on Saddam puzzles US
Saturday, June 19, 2004. 8:08am (AEST)

Russian 'warning' on Saddam puzzles US

The US State Department expressed bafflement after Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that his country had warned the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks that Iraq's Saddam Hussein planned to hit targets on US soil.

The State Department said say they knew of no such information from Russia.

Mr Putin said Russian intelligence had been told on several occasions that Saddam's special forces were preparing to attack US targets inside and outside the United States.

"After the events of September 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, Russian special services several times received information that the official services of the Saddam regime were preparing 'terrorist acts' on the United States and beyond its borders," he told reporters.

"This information was passed on to our American colleagues."

He added, however, that Russian intelligence had no proof that Saddam's agents had been involved in any particular attack.

State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters he did not know anything about the information that Mr Putin said Russia passed on, saying no such information was communicated from Russia through the State Department.

"Everybody's scratching their heads," one State Department official said, who asked not to be named.

The Kremlin leader's comments seemed certain to bolster Mr Bush, whose campaign for re-election in November is under pressure from the Iraq crisis. ...Cont'd

Putin described the United States as a partner but also stressed firmly that the Iraqi campaign should not be lumped in with the broader international war on terrorism - as Washington is doing.

"We do not want the United States to lose their war on terrorism. We are US partners in the fight against terrorism," Putin said.

"But as for Iraq, this is a separate matter. There were no international terrorists under Hussein. This is a separate problem," said Putin.
