US groups want Moore film banned
BBC News snip:

US conservative groups have launched a campaign to have Michael Moore's "misleading and grotesque" film Fahrenheit 9/11 banned from cinemas.

The film alleges connections between President George Bush and top Saudi families, including the Bin Ladens.

Move America Forward has begun a letter-writing campaign, while Citizens United is making TV and internet adverts which criticise Moore.

The documentary film will be shown around the US from 25 June.

2. The Truth Hurts.
For a little background, those new to the subject might enjoy:

The Bush-Saudi Connection

By Michelle Mairesse

EXCERPT...

Jihad

The Wahhabi Taliban in Afghanistan had the blessings of the Saudi royal family and of The Big Three--the bin Laden family, the al Ahmoudi family, and the Mahfouz family--the richest clans in that medieval kingdom. (Khalid bin Mahfouz is bin Laden’s brother-in-law). The desert oligarchs profited from world-wide investments as well as sleazy banking schemes such as the infamous Bank of Credit and Commerce International.

Salem bin Laden, Osama’s brother, has conducted all his American affairs through James Bath, a Houston crony of the Bush family. Bath’s former business partner Bill White testified in court that Bath had been a liaison for the C.I.A. In 1979 Bath invested $50,000 in Arbusto, George W. Bush’s first business venture. Rumor had it that Bath was acting as Salem bin Laden’s representative. "In conflicting statements, Bush at first denied ever knowing Bath, then acknowledged his stake in Arbusto and that he was aware Bath represented Saudi interests." (4)

In addition to doing aviation business with Saudi sheiks, Bath was part owner of a Houston bank whose chief stockholder was Ghaith Pharaon, who represented the Bank of Commerce and Credit International (BCCI), a criminal global bank with branches in 73 countries. BCCI proceeded to defraud depositors of $10 billion during the ‘80s, while providing a money laundry conduit for the Medellin drug cartel, Asia’s major heroin cartel, Manuel Noriega, Saddam Hussein, the C.I.A., and Islamist terrorist organizations worldwide. (5)

Big Three wheeler-dealer Khalid bin Mahfouz, one of the largest stockholders in the criminal bank, was indicted when the massive BCCI banking scandal blew apart in the early 1990s. The Saudi royal family placed him under house arrest after discovering that Mahfouz had used the royal bank to channel millions of dollars through fake charities into bin Laden’s organizations, but Mahfouz was not so much punished as inconvenienced. (6)

CONTINUED TREASON...

70. bush saudi connection
I have read the book "House of Bush House of Saud" by Carl Unger. I found it very informative especially when you follow it with "Against All Enemies" by Richard Clarke. It is simply amazing how the very leaders of our nation can be so tied to a terrorist nation (Saudi Arabia) and no one seems to mind, but oh the horror when Bill Clinton got a BJ in the Oval Office. Of course this whole mess we are in today is his fault. Sick sick sick world we live in.

the hard left isn't gonna change, but this will get the folks in the middle interested in what Fahrenheit 911 is all about. It will also get more folks out to vote for Kerry.

This film may bring in more money than 'The Passion'.

Go Michael go!

53. I think that retaliation will come in the form of "word of mouth."
People WILL see this film. Then they'll come out and talk about it. Others will hear. Some, perhaps many of them will be intrigued, or challenged, enough to want to see for themselves. "I'll bet this is BULLSHIT! They can't make those claims about Our President!! Bring 'em ON!!!" And then they'll come out of the theater afterwards utterly gobsmacked. I've heard many testimonials from those who've seen advance screenings and have been jarred, to the bone, simply by the footage of bush at the elementary school, sitting on his ass with the pathetic expression on his face, while time marches on and people in Lower Manhattan are burning... NOBODY leaves the theater unmoved, having seen that.

45. God smiled on Michael Moore.
All the paper's headlines this week have been all about no connection between 9/11 and Iraq. This nazi censorship is only going to raise suspicions more about this. If they were smart they would give Moore the David Brock treatment and totally ignore him, not mention it, or laugh it off and change the subject.

They are so stupid to call this film grotesque after the Passion. Give me a break. If they didn't own the media it would be obvious that people are fed up with these jackals, and everyone just wishes they would shut the hell up.

And if the movie is so inaccurate and tells so many lies, where is the proof?

The only response they have is an attempt at intimidation.

I went to Catholic School and over the loud speaker one day was the announcement that the pope had banned Monty Python's 'Life of Brian'. The nun/principal told us not to go see the movie it was sacreligeous... That very night the theater was filled with Catholic shcool students, me included!

They never learn. Monty Python and Michael Moore benefit from these nuts.

the Post Commander at Fort Hood, where the 1st Cavalry Division was/is stationed, banned the movie from all on-post theaters.

The theaters in Killeen were no-doubt appreciative, since almost every Snuffie in two Divisions made a bee-line ;)

many rave reviews? Even one from that guy on the Pox network. You know what they say in the P.R. world - "there's no such thing as bad publicity." And also - "I don't care what you print about me, just make sure you spell my name correctly."

Pandora's box has been opened. No closing it now. It's in their faces. But good.

11. Truth is the "conservatives'" worst enemy
They KNOW that if people know the truth, the "conservative movement" is screwed.

The ONLY way they can hope to stay in power is through lies and deceit. The reason they are reacting so strongly to things like F911 is because it threatens their deception, it threatens to open peoples' eyes to the truth.

Think about who tries to stifle movies, theater, publications, dissenters... Authoritarian and Totalitarian movements and dictators.

The guys behind these attempts are our very own little would-be dictators.

21. and they still HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM
unless they've been to screenings in New York or Los Angeles, which are pretty much by invitation only, they're basing their "call for censorship" on what someone else tells them about the film, and that person may not have seen it either. I heard that Bill O'Reilly blasted it, but he walked out after 30 minutes.

20. These people are truly f*cking insane!
This is a rabid partisanship that easily equates to Communist Party or National Socialist Party politics: Party above nation. They're clearly so blinded by partisanship that they're fully and completely indoctrinated into the thinking that whatever is "good for the party" is 'good' for the world. These are "True Believers" of the most extreme kind - exactly what infested Germany in the 30's and the USSR in the Stalin days.

The similarities are very much there. You are thinking of the late 30's and 1941.....They started with very similar things and the RW and catholic church helped bring hitler to power and enforce bigoted, predudice....like book burning, rounding up people with due cause, beating them up.....yes this is all happening now....

31. Authoritarians like this almost immediately comply with the ruling regime.
These are not people who're persuaded by principle or ideology. They're people who're so without their own "inner compasses" that they run to join the largest mob around. This is the insidious nature of authoritarianism. Put them under an autocratic/totalitarian regime and they become 100% compliant - Hitler Youth. These people form the base for all such regimes. Put a right wing authoritarian (Nazi) under a left wing totalitarian regime (Stalinist) and they become left wing authoritarians.

26. Reuters on this:
'Fahrenheit' Fight Nears Boiling Point This Week

Fri Jun 18, 2004 04:02 AM ET

Snip:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Brace yourselves. Michael Moore's Palme d'Or-winning "Fahrenheit 9/11" approaches its New York opening in two theaters Wednesday and its national opening Friday.

Already this week, a couple of dueling Web sites have been batting around Moore's anti-Bush documentary like a political shuttlecock.

First, a Web site called http://www.MoveAmericaForward.org, backed by the PR firm Russo Marsh & Rogers, which sports conservative credentials, stepped forward with a campaign intended to pressure theaters not to book the film as a way of "supporting America's war on terrorism."

Almost immediately, the liberal activists of http://www.MoveOn.org rallied back, urging their members -- as if they needed any encouragement -- to see the movie on opening night.

However, their daft and unconstitutional approach to the whole matter pales besides the scary things the administration has been doing regarding detainees and the matter of torture. "F9/11" — as we saw last night — is a tribute to patriotism, to the American sense of duty, and at the same time a indictment of stupidity and avarice. Readers of this column may recall that I had a lot of problems with Moore's "Bowling for Columbine," particularly where I thought he took gratuitous shots at helpless targets like Charlton Heston. "Columbine" too easily succeeded by shooting fish in a barrel, as they used to say. Not so with "F9/11," which instead relies on lots of film footage and actual interviews to make its case against the war in Iraq and tell the story of the intertwining histories of the Bush and Bin Laden families.

52. Move American Forward????
It is so weird that there are people who want to block the facts. How would that be good for the country? What bird is it that sticks his head in the sand? Maybe he should become our national bird instead of the eagle.

55. If it's truly "misleading and grotesque" as they claim
why don't they put their energy and money where their mouths are and do their own rebuttal movie? All I hear these groups doing is going around shouting 'shut it down'. They did the same thing with the Reagan movie. But they never offer a piece of work that the American public can take a look at and make up their own minds with.

Yep, patriots all of them. :puke:

63. Yes, what a good idea, let's suspend the First Amendment entirely!
After all, we cannot have anything out there that in any way questions the legitimacy of our Holy God-Appointed Leader, Kim Il Sung, Saddam Hussein, Benito Mussolini, Papa Doc Duvalier, George W. Bush, can we?

64. I am all for free speech, liberal or conservative.
Are you all familiar with the proposed censure of Rush Limbaugh, banning him from airtime on the armed forces radio network? Well, although I don't agree with Rush, he certainly in entitled to his free speech. Now, while I may not totally agree with Moore either, he must be entitled to free speech. Conservatives are such hypocrites.
