Madonna Urges Her Fans To See Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

In yer face, Britney!
Madonna Urges Her Fans To See Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

Singer praises film during her New York concert Wednesday.

Michael Moore has got Madonna's vote — she urged fans during her concert Wednesday night at New York's Madison Square Garden to go see his provocative new film, "Fahrenheit 9/11."

In what seemed to be a genuine, unscripted moment, the singer told the audience — which included the filmmaker himself — that she had just seen the film and that it had really affected her. Moore had screened the film to a crowd of celebrities and members of the press on Monday at New York's Ziegfeld Theater.

"I don't think I've ever cried so hard at a movie in my life," Madonna said during a break in her performance. "And I'm sure I still have a lot to learn from it."

Madonna also acknowledged Moore's presence and thanked him for making the film, which opens in New York on Wednesday and nationwide on June 25.

1. Madonna, I'm not exactly a fan of yours. I'm just an old party pooper.
But, you're okay in my book just the same.

21. .....and Howard Stern is not big in my book, but I love the guy
when he bangs junior to his 7 or 8 million fans. So along with Madonna and Howard, they'll get many to register to vote for Kerry.

4. Lighten up on Britney (and why)
It's not because I'm such a Britney Spears fan, but she's 22 and has lived a sheltered life.

In the next couple of years, reality is going to step out of a dark alley somewhere and smack the living s**t out of her. Like it does to all of us.

After she's been down and gotten up again, that's when we'll be able to tell whether she is trash or whether she is treasure. Right now, it's a coin-toss.

Forget Britney. Madonna's been there and back. She might a little wacky, but she's earned her credibility.

26. Nah, she's rich. Life won't get to her, she's worth
probably a 100 million by now.

Madonna was counter-culture from the beginning. She was 23 when she started getting famous, and she knew what the hell was up, unlike Britney "just trust President Bush" Spears.

11. The trick is getting them to vote at all
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 12:49 AM by 0rganism
Young voters, 18-24, have the lowest turnout rate in the nation. Something like 20%. Pathetic.

13. I remember the Madonna fans back in high school.
They all wore lace fingerless gloves and denim mini-skirts.

The problem is that they're mostly aging SUV-driving hausfraus now...

And I'll bet it's a diverse group, too.

18. I must be like the only Madonna fan on DU.
You talk like that down around Chelsea and you're likely to get sassed right out of the neighborhood. :)

And, um, Like a Prayer? She's done way better than that. Pick up Ray of Light some tme. There's maybe two mediocre songs on the whole album (and even those are decent). It's one of the rare mainstream CDs of recent years I can play from start to finish.

--Chovexani, possibly the only Madonna fan on DU (please, don't throw fruit!)

She also supported Wesley Clark. I'm really glad she's openly praising F911.

27. We're all spoiled rotten ungrateful @ssholes.
Thanks so much for bringing up gay men. I know what Madonna did for women, but I had forgotten her support of the gay community and AIDS research.

It's a sign of her success that she has made herself obsolete, everyone thinks of her as a performer, a singer, and her message, which was scandalous twenty years ago, is now "the way things are". She will never get enough credit for her courage and her influence on culture. One piece of her work that I LOVE is her movie "Truth or Dare", that was awesome, she really has the courage of her convictions. Also "Jusify My Love" comes to mind.

Then there's her portrayal of interracial relationships, and the Black Jesus in "Like a Prayer". The more I thing about it, the more I am amazed at her cojones. She really knew how to hone in on cultural hypocrisy and put a spotlight on it.

when people talk about how much they cried, do they mean it literally, or are they just saying it's a moving film?

28. I hate when I have to like Madonna....
But good for her for speaking out. She also publically endorsed Clark for
President when he was still a candidate.

Its good when she turns her attraction to being controversial towards
something important.

37. Fascinating!
One of my exercise instructors has nothing on her mind but sports and pop music, but she's a huge Madonna fan and actually went to another city to see her in person.

It would be great if she took Madonna's suggestion and saw this film...
