Conservatives Mobilize To Counter Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11'
Conservatives Mobilize To Counter Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

POSTED: 3:05 pm EDT June 17, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- While the White House and the Republican National Committee have taken an official "no comment" approach to Michael Moore and his new anti-Bush documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," some conservatives have mobilized a letter-writing campaign and crafted ads that slam the film and its maker.

"Fahrenheit 9/11," which won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival, attacks President George W. Bush's rationale for the war in Iraq and accuses him and his administration of manipulating the Sept. 11 terror attacks and fostering fear for political gain.

It is set for release on June 25, debuting on at least 500 screens, with plans to expand to hundreds more in the coming weeks.

One of the organizations rallying against Moore is Move America Forward, a pro-Bush group that evolved months ago from the letter-writing campaign that led CBS to drop its controversial TV movie "The Reagans."

1. bring 'em on. everybody in the business knows that any press is good press
so anything they do, say, write, or get on the news will simply increase the number of viewers. these people are idiots of the highest degree.

2. right, there's no such thing as bad publicity.
I'm hoping for a bunch of grimfaced, unhappy Freepers picketing the theater. Let the fence sitters know who the Bush people really are.

3. Conservatives Mobilize to Counter Constitution
Conservatives Mobilize To Counter US Constitition

POSTED: 3:05 pm EDT June 17, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- While the White House and the Republican National Committee have taken an official "no comment" approach to personal freedoms and the 225-year-old US Constitution, some conservatives have mobilized a letter-writing campaign and crafted ads that slam the documents and its writers.

"The Consttitution of the United States," which won praise from freedom-loving peoples around the globe for centuries, obliterates President George W. Bush's rationale for the war in Iraq and certifies that he and his administration manipulated the Sept. 11 terror attacks and fostered fear for political gain.

It has been in effect for 225 years, debuting in 1789, with plans to be updated in the coming years in accordance with the founders intent.

One of the many Republican organizations rallying against the Constitution is Move America Forward, a pro-Bush group that evolved months ago from the letter-writing campaign that led CBS to drop its controversial TV movie "The Reagans."

6. That's hilarious.
Meanwhile, let's thank the theater chains that are showing the movie somewhere - virtually all of them - so that they're inclined to put it on in all of their markets. Last I heard, there are still seven states that won't see F911. Go here for details:

4. Heh. Keep talking about it boys. Then everyone will want to see it. Even
conservatives will be sneaking into theaters to see what all the fuss is about.

7. Theatres are not knuckling under
A friend of mine sent e-mails in support of the film to all the theatre contacts on the list, and said that most of them have set auto-responders saying that they are gong to show it.

I e-mailed my local theatre, which also links to my Web site, and they say that mail is running 8-1 in favor of running the film. (My county is heavily Republican.) They wish people would stop clogging their mailbox. :)

9. Like when Father Ted picketed a naughty film?

The bishop ordered Father Ted & Father Dougal to demonstrate at Craggy Island Cinema. Thanks to their presence, the film became the biggest hit ever!

(Their sign did say "Down With This Sort of Thing." Now the saying is used on an anti-war poster available here: www.adamnieman.co.uk/posters/ )

10. "Trust the Free Market"
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 04:46 PM by Rumpole
If they don't want theaters to show the movie, they should simply stay away. Without an audience, the theater managers will drop the movie in favor of more lucrative films. Isn't that the way a free market operates? </sarcasm>

14. Why doesn't the media do some INVESTIGATIVE journalism?
Perhaps they can get their donut-laden asses off their comfy chairs and tell us ALL who is behind "Move America Forward". Perhpaps they can tell us who is bankrolling their high-priced PR firm... and how the "whois" was changed once we caught on to those that owned the website. Lazy hacks.
