California to File Fraud Lawsuit Against Enron
Snip

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California Attorney General Bill Lockyer plans to announce on Thursday that he will sue bankrupt Enron Corp. for hundreds of millions of dollars for manipulating prices during the 2000-2001 energy crisis, officials said.

The suit will charge Enron with commodities fraud and unfair business practices through its manipulation of electricity prices.

Lockyer's move follows the recent release of profanity-laced audio tapes recorded during the crisis where Enron traders discuss how to boost prices at the expense of "poor grandmothers."

The tapes were gathered during a Justice Department criminal investigation.

1. Hello?? It's about time! I wonder if it'll amount to anything...
I'm no expert---just a common citizen---but I've listend to those tapes and read the transcripts and they made my goddamn head explode. This shit is pure evil, and it makes Al Capone look like Albert Schweitzer. Okay, maybe that's a lame comparison but it's the best I could do this second.

But why do I worry that nothing will come of this? Oh yeah: American history. That's why.

7. Aw, jumpin' Jesus, is that how it's going now?
Shit. God-DAMN these motherfuckers. I admit to not being up on such matters, but you clearly are.

Right now I'm doing a Herman Munster---"Darn! Darn! Darn! Darn Darn!"---and the walls are shaking. Plaster is falling. I'm sorry to make a joke about this, actually. This is terrible fucking news.

SHIT!

13. The other side of that is......
Hopefully the potential jurists will have heard the tapes or at least know thru print media what was said. Any smart person will say that they have no knowledge of the tapes so as to insure they get on the jury. Then "BAM" comes the guilty verdict!!! We can always hope, yes?

4. Hundreds of millions
That doesn't even begin to cover it. We're talking BILLIONS.

California isn't the only state that got (and is STILL) getting screwed.

Nevada, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, Idaho, Montana are the ones I know about. They screwed the entire western United States.

Grandma Millie lives.

5. Great,
They can sue, and win, and get in line with all of the other people who filed lawsuits against Enron and are waiting for $$ (like the investors and employees). Much of Enron's screwing of California (and other states) was passed on to consumers by way of higher prices. I wonder if the state will see fit to return any of that money, or will the people get screwed again.

9. Enron isn't the target
You are right that Enron is bankrupt and probably won't pay. However, this could force the FERC to let California renegotiate the unfavorable energy contracts since they were so obviouly based on manipulated and false data. However, the fly in the ointment is that a majority of these FERC guys are Repukes and they could care less about the truth. They are only intersted in promoting the profit margins of the energy companies. Only if this looks like it will hurt Bush will they reconsider. At least that's my prediction.

16. and now the FERC Want to Make California Pay EVEN MORE!!!!!!!!!
to punish us for complaining, probably.

The'll probably make us pay it too, since all the Bush*-appointed judges
will side with the FERC.

They will keep on punishing us until we learn to bend over and vote Republican.

8. Funny how none of this shit is sticking Ah-nuld
The bastard settled for pennies on the dollar and I guess he's still playing the heroic "outsider" crusading against waste, fraud and corruption...when he isn't negotiating backroom deals with the purveyors of same. What a fucked up situation.

In a just world, Ah-nuld wouldn't be able to show his face in public without having rotten tomatoes thrown at him by all the grandma millies out there who got screwed.

14. And Arnold has not said ONE FUCKING WORD about the tapes.
Of course, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that the sexual predator met with Ken Lay at the height of the energy "crisis." :eyes:
