8. Car Bomb Kills at Least 41 Outside Iraqi Army Base
A powerful suicide car bomb ripped into a throng of men waiting this morning to sign up for the new Iraqi army outside the army’s main recruiting station in the heart of the capital, killing at least 41 people and wounding more than 100, hospital officials said.

The bomb went off around 9 a.m. in the upscale Mansour neighborhood and sent a thick plume of smoke over the Baghdad skyline. The explosion threw bodies into the air and scattered them across a four-lane road. Cars burst into flames. Charred shrapnel rained from the sky.

The car bomb was the deadliest single one in months. It came after several days of powerful bombings in Baghdad, and at a critical time for the Iraqi army. Many soldiers refused to fight during the uprising in April, and the Americans are now desperately trying to recruit and train a reliable force that can begin taking over security after June 30, when the interim Iraqi government will assume limited sovereignty.

But the explosion raised questions about whether the Americans and Iraqi security forces can even protect those men who are willing to sign up.

9. Question for the Obedient Media of the United States of Murka:
Why the FUCK do you well-groomed airheads think this is happening? (I realize you don't actually THINK anymore, but humor me for a minute.) What is the ONE COMMON THEME of all these suicide attacks? WHO are they ultimately aimed against?

WHY is there violence in Iraq 24/7? WHY is there no security, no electricity, no running water? WHY are our troops getting picked off one by one by one by one?

Your first answer is that the US is an OCCUPYING FORCE. Violence is how citizens respond to occupiers.

Now, why are we an Occupation Force? This one is going to give you trouble. We are an Occupation Force because your boy bu$h lied this country into a War For Profit AND YOU HELPED HIM DO IT.

Face it, boys and girls, there's no there there. There are no WMDs, no nukes, no poison gas, no nerve agents. There are no drones capable of spraying Miami within 45 minutes. None of the justifications for this Testosterone Rampage that you so faithfully parroted have turned out to be true. Your precious bu$h LIED. He mounted an invasion of a basically unarmed country just so Dick Cheney could get richer.

Here's the short answer. The US is the target of all this violence because we have no damn business being in Iraq. The rest of the fucking WORLD knows it. They've known it all along. What part of bu$h Lied do you not understand?

Now, tell me again what an evil bastard Bill Clinton was for getting a blowjob.

15. Excellent post, dbt!
I wish I could be assured that at least SOME of the media who have prostituted themselves before the Bush throne these past 4 years would read it. The media is at least as culpable as Bush. They share the responsibility for moving this country in the direction of fascism.

I think this says it all, "What part of bu$h Lied do you not understand?"

20. Some liar this morning on CNN
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 10:36 AM by daleo
Claimed that the bomb didn't get any Iraqi military or police, just innocent pedestrians nearby or heading for a local park. I doubted it at the time. It seemed unlikely that there would be that many pedestrians in close proximity unless they were milling around or lined up at the recruiting station, presumably to apply for jobs. The implication was that this was random, mindless terrorism instead of an attack on what were seen to be people collaborating with the U.S. installed regime. Innocent people are killed either way, but the political and tactical meanings are very different.

It was sort of a gang lie - an army guy, and the new Iraqi president - maybe the journalist reporting as well.
