Man Shot and Killed After Running Fire Barricade in Arizona; Area to Be Toured by Bush
The Associated Press
Published: Aug 11, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies early Monday after running a highway barricade set up to keep motorists out of a fire-devastated area.
The man appeared to be intoxicated and suicidal, said Pima County Deputy Steve Easton. His identity wasn't immediately released.

He ran the barricade on Catalina Highway, leading up Mount Lemmon to the hamlet of Summerhaven. Deputies caught up with him four miles later. When they approached him, he held a beer out the window and said he wanted to die, Easton said. (snip)

(snip) President Bush was expected to tour the community later Monday and talk about his Healthy Forests Initiative, a plan to accelerate forest thinning and other projects to lessen the threat of fire. Easton said the incident did not appear related to the president's visit, but the Secret Service was briefed on the investigation.

1. Um, What the hell???
He gets killed for crossing a barricade? And I don't see anything mentioning a gun or him threatening the cops....

Cops here suck. Another reason why CT is my avatar, even though I live in the hellhole that is AZ.
