Cuomo: GOP convention to be ``very, very good'' for Giuliani
ALBANY, N.Y. -- A starring role at the Republican National Convention will set tongues wagging about former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as a GOP presidential contender, former Gov. Mario Cuomo said Tuesday.

"They'll probably play Rudy heavier than any other part of the convention," Democrat Cuomo said during an interview about the Republicans bringing their convention to New York City for the first time.

"So Rudy will go up and people will start talking about him replacing (Vice President Dick) Cheney or him running for president," Cuomo said. "It'll be very, very good for Rudy."

snip....

On Friday, a spokesman for the GOP convention said Giuliani, mayoral successor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. George Pataki would all be featured prominently at the event, in part, because of their post-Sept. 11 star power.

"The role they played in New York, the strength, the resiliency that they demonstrated to the world is very much a part of what we're going to show the world at our convention," Leonardo Alcivar had said.

4. is that the same rudy giuliani who's
been married three times? moved now-wife #3 into gracie mansion while then-wife #2 still lived there?

is that the rudy giuliani whose father was a petty criminal who served time?

the rudy giuliani that i hear is pro-choice?

the rudy giuliani whose security company is making a killing in the post 9/11 world?

just wanted to make sure that's the same rudy giuliani they're thinking about running.

14. I can't imagine the conservatives would let Rudy run for Pres as the GOP
candidate. The GOP has gone so much to the right, that there's no way that he'd get enough support in the primaries to win, even though he'd win NY.

I don't hate Rudy like some here do, but he does have a lot of baggage with the NYPD brutality cases and the divorces and the mistress. He's pro-choice, which automatically pisses off 75% of the GOP base.

17. Better a petty crook
than a NAZI sympathizer, financier and violator of the Trading with the Enemy Act.

6. All the "911-ing" may very well backfire on them. People aren't
quite as stupid as they the GOP thinks they are - especially New Yorkers. If I lived there I would be highly offended by their adopting this national tragedy as their own. What did Bush do anyway but flee?

10. Is he marrying the girl whose yard he trashed a few yrs ago?
Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 01:17 PM by patsified
Didn't I read that he was very violent with her physically as well? Or is he marrying some new victim? Why in the world any female would want to marry into the psychotic Bush clan is beyond me.

12. You mean to tell me he's not in the military fighting terrorism?
I am shocked! No wonder we haven't found Osama yet. Suit that boy up and send him off to Afghanistan. We need to replace whatshisname the football player.

16. many believe jeb won't get the nod.
w. is such a gigantic, insecure asshole that he wants to be the last and only one of the sons to be president. he doesn't want to share the limelight with his p*ssy little brother.

many think billy frist, cat killer and father of an habitual dui offender, will get the nod in '08.

11. There are reasons Bush didn't offer Rudy a job.
Bush doesn't like to be outshone. The GOP wants to promote Rudy while nominating George???????? That would be conceding the election.

Putting Rudy in place of Cheney would be a statement that the GOP is fine with impeachment after the election. I would be seriously amused to see it happen.

We do know most of this speculation is coming from Mario Cuomo, Democrat?

13. ...but it's not not a political decision to use 911 in that way -right?!
Just so we have it clear.

It's OK for the repukes to abuse and use every sick thing they can from the tragedy, but only democrats are capable of politicizing it for daring to hold chimpy accountable and asking questions about his failure of leadership and decision making.

Just want to be sure we are clear on this.
