US to give information in Padilla dirty bomb case
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N01364517.htm

WASHINGTON, June 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday is expected to release more information about Jose Padilla, suspected of plotting with al Qaeda to set off a radioactive "dirty bomb" in the United States.

One law enforcement official said a news conference, with Deputy Attorney General James Comey and scheduled for 12:45 p.m. (1645 GMT), would involve releasing newly declassified information about Padilla. The official declined to give any details.

Padilla, who has not been changed with any crime and whose case is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, has been confined in a military prison in South Carolina for about two years without any of the customary protections of the U.S. legal system.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule by the end of June whether American citizens like Padilla who are deemed "enemy combatants," can be held indefinitely in U.S. military jails without any of the traditional legal rights.

3. Just caught some of it
on CNN.

Padilla is a gift to Ashcroft and the Rwers....

If all this stuff is true...

supposedly Padilla admits to:

Meeting with AQ military commander
Planning on dirty bomb
blowing up 20 buildings simoultaneously

Not much to back it up...just supposedly what Padilla admitted to.

4. If torture is involved
in obtaining his admissions or in any accusations made against him, they can't let the case go to trial- It would all be inadmissible. I think that's why they work so hard to keep it out of the courts. I'd love a reason not to suspect that's what happened.

5. Padilla is being USED as advertisement for the Patriot Act.
The government is doing a "proffer" on national television.

It's the most disgusting propaganda I have ever witnessed.

I just cannot believe the neocons are getting away with this shit.

6. For all we know it's on the up and up...
But I've heard so many lies and half-truths from this Administration that I don't believe a word they say anymore. Nothing. They could say W has sex with dead pigs and I'd still think they were up to something.

9. For all we know? All we are fed is a PROFFER by the government,...
,...which has proven to be a propoganda-generating machine.

We don't "KNOW" anything,...other than what is being "fed" to us.

What about that do you fail to accept (nothing personal, mind you, just showering reality on your world).

7. Padilla should be charged and tried in open court
Since when did the US Constitution stop functioning. If they can do it to Padilla, they can do it to anybody. Simple as that. No exceptions to habeas corpus and right to trial by one's peers. NO fucking EXCEPTIONS.
