Local FBI Head: al Qaeda 'Expressed Interest' in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh (KDKA) With federal officials warning that al Qaeda might be planning attacks on the US in the upcoming months, the local head of the FBI warns that Pittsburgh is not as immune as many residents might think.

Reacting to news that suspected terrorists might be in the country planning more attacks, most Pittsburghers told KDKA that they're not too concerned with an attack. "They'll probably target New York City and I think the more major cities," said one woman, "and I don't think Pittsburgh would be a target."

~snip~

"These people have to be someplace -- why not Pittsburgh? They could be here." McCabe adds, "We have facilities, targets that they may be looking at or have looked at in the past."

"I can't go into why," McCabe added, "but we do have intelligence -- and we know that al Qaeda has been interested in the Pittsburgh general area... This is one of many areas that we are aware that al Qaeda has expressed some interest in."

~snip~

So does the FBI have specifics or he this agent trying to scare the folks of Pittsburgh?

3. So, is it worse to tell the people or just ALLUDE to something awful?
I think this is totally outrageous to say, "Well, we have info, we just can't tell you what it is!"

Either come out with it or shut the hell up!

7. We would spot them in a heart-beat
after all, just about everybody that lives here is from here...

And if they were from the outside, we could spot them by their aversion to chipped-ham...or pop...or gumbands or something...

15. I think scrapple is more from Amish Country
mid-state. But we'd know them from their aversion to all the above plus Jumbo, Heinz ketchup, Iron City Beer, mullets, and not saying Yunz and Yunzes.

29. Isn't this where Teresa Heinz-Kerry is creating a model city?
It's interesting that Pittsburg would be the city. Teresa Kerry is a very strong environmentalist and is doing some good work there. Remember when the Anthrax attacks happened in the Senate, only top Democrats were hit, so it makes sense that the city she cares about would be the target.

31. Creating a model city?
That's a stretch...she is in charge of the Heinz foundation, which helps to fund the Heinz House ( a place for underprivileged children to go, much akin to a YMCA) and is active in the arts through the the foudation...

That is it...No political involvement whatsoever...

32. She's done more than that
"...the first convention center to be certified as a green building by the U.S. Green Building Council."

"Once one of the country's most polluted cities, Pittsburgh has become one of the most active centers for environmentally sound design and construction--such as the Heinz Family Foundation offices and PNC's Firstside Center."

"Pittsburgh's philanthropic and arts communities, especially through the leadership of Teresa Heinz at The Heinz Endowments, advocated for a building that would set a new standard for civic design--a functional building integrated with the neighboring Cultural District, in harmony with the natural setting, and ecologically prominent."

"To support the greening process, The Heinz Endowments awarded a four-year grant to the Green Building Alliance in 1998 and later made a $3 million, project-related investment to the SEA to support the upfront cost of key green technologies."

http://www.gbapgh.org/ShadesOfGreenAwardHeinz.htm

"The Pennsylvania HOPE Strategy is our contribution to the effort to create a comprehensive, affordable prescription drug program for the senior citizens of Pennsylvania. It is a project of the Heinz Family Philanthropies."
http://www.hfp.heinz.org/programs/hope.html

"Teresa Heinz and Steven Spielberg today announced a major collaboration that will make Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh one of the nation's principal research sites for a program to deliver entertainment and communications services to seriously ill children."

Funds HealthWeek on PBS, not Pittsburgh, but still. She does ALOT.

33. What about Phoenix, Little Rock, Miami, Des Moines, Portland, Detroit,
Minneapolis, St. Louis, Manchester, Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Cincinatti, the other Portland, Nashville, Seattle, Charleston or Milwaukee?

Come on now - Pennsylvania isn't the only "battleground state" in this election that needs to be kept in line.

(Which would explain why NYC and DC aren't threatened - they're solidly Democratic)
