Like Father, Like Son? No, Says A Former President
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/26/politics/trail/26TRAIL-BUSH.html?ex=1086235200&en=5a39bf9f3172857a&ei=5062&partner=GOOGLE

The world's leading authority on running for re-election as president after a war with Iraq said today that he believes President Bush will do just fine in November.

"I feel very confident," former President George H. W. Bush told Matt Lauer in an interview on the NBC News program "Today." "And you know what? American elections are decided on the economy. And my problem was the economy was good but I couldn't get people to understand that. This economy is strong. In my view, it's going to be stronger in the fall. But even without that, I think the country is looking for a strong leader. They've got one, and they're going to want him to serve more."

The taped interview was aired in advance of the former president's 80th birthday next month and showed he takes criticism of his son to heart. "It's pretty hurtful, I mean, when you see all these books," he said. "It's all anti-Bush. It's all anti-family. It just burns you up. But I don't feel inclined to respond."

*************

Repeat after me: KISS OF DEATH!

10. What in the bloody hell
is up with the skin lesions??? Does he have some disease I'm not aware of?

How come his lesions look like a more severe version of his son's pretzel and bike wounds?

In regards to his remarks, what a simpleton. Does he possibly wonder why there are so many anti-Bush books out right now? Maybe he could educate himself about the pulse of the nation? Naw, the authors are just big meanies.

23. The skin lesions are a common side effect...
...of the antibiotic cipro. Both Bush and Bush, Jr. were put on it after 9/11 to guard against anthrax infection.

it's the repukes who are holding their convention in New York, not the Democrats. The repukes wanted to hold it there so they could capitalize on all the dead from 9-11, they are so evil. :evilfrown:

"Reptilian" yeah, another name for the repukelicans but kind of insulting to retiles. I have a tortoise and even though it is cold-blooded it has heart and intelligence, something the repukes don't have. :-(

30. Even though you've already been ejected, I'd like to respond...
I don't think of myself as a conspiracy monger. In fact, in the aftermath of 9/11 with the anthrax getting delivered to (Democratic) Senatorial offices and the like, I'd think that putting the current P(r)esident (even-though illigetimately elected) and ex-Presidents on the anti-biotic would be a natural precaution. What I don't like is a natural precaution getting explained away with something as idiotic as "choking on a pretzel".

We want a strong leader in John Kerry
We want George Jr. to serve more time in prison for his crimes against the nation and the world.

21. Delusional old idiot
"And my problem was the economy was good but I couldn't get people to understand that."

Maybe he couldn't get people to "understand" it because they were too smart to be fooled.

"This economy is strong. In my view, it's going to be stronger in the fall."

What parallel universe is he in? I lost my job not long ago and when I filed for unemployment I was told that there might be a 4-8 week wait before my claim would be processed. Apparently there huge backlog of claims they were trying to work through. Fortunately it only took about three weeks.

"But even without that, I think the country is looking for a strong leader."

He is right about us wanting a strong leader...and it certainly isn't the chimp!

54. Neither one thinks a strong economy requires good jobs
You're absolutely right. I recall very well looking for a job in early '94. I ended up taking a pretty bad one because there simply were not a lot of jobs out there. If I'd been trying to support a family or even just myself I couldn't have done it.

Someone who was on CNN yesterday said that jobs are not a lagging economic indicator, but rather jobs ARE the economy. That's the best and simplest way I've ever heard to speak reality to this mumbo-jumbo about the economy and job creation. Neither Bush understands that. Both are equally out of touch with the vast majority of humanity about the need to make a living.

56. Don't forget, dubya played an integral role in his daddy's campaign
Ha - his brilliant hand can been seen in it's early stages planning and crafting his father's re-election - just another in his lifetime of failures.

What kills me about the Bush family is how aloof and elitist their demeanor is. How can they know what the hell is going on when they hold themselves above the world and don't interact with or respond to it? (GHW Bush said he doesn't respond to the criticism and Barbara said she doesn't bother her beautiful mind with news coverage of our war dead)

Bush (Sr)'s comment about his admin and the economy being in good shape but people just didn't know about it - how out of touch is that? It's even more confusing because he was a top CIA guy - surely he had to engage in the real world at that time? You'd think he would have developed a habit of examining real time issues by having realistic, hands-on interaction. I guess not.
