Ex-chief of Iraq prisons baffled by suspension (Karpinski)
Edited on Wed May-26-04 10:23 AM by maddezmom
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The former commander of military police at U.S. prisons in Iraq says she does not know why she was suspended and insists the Army was aware of abuses at Abu Ghraib prison months before it launched an investigation.

~snip~

"It can certainly have an impact, a dramatic impact, on my career," she told CNN's "American Morning" Wednesday. "Suspended means they take you out of the position pending the results of something. I don't know because I've never been officially notified. I found out, as everybody knows, through the media, initially."

Karpinski was relieved of duty in Iraq on January 17, a day after the coalition military announced an investigation into allegations of abuse at Abu Ghraib prison.

"The people that were there at this meeting -- it was very informal -- they were all aware of the report," she said. "As a matter of fact when I asked a question about the report, the SJA to the CJTF-7 -- the lead lawyer -- responded very quickly and said I have a copy of the report right here, you can see it.

"So clearly they had already seen the report, maybe it had been intercepted or routed to them in this particular case, and they were already working on a response for my review."

She's going to take Sanchez all the way down....I'd say a court martial will be in order for him soon.

1. She is a threat to them
if they take away her credibility, they think she will be less dangerous.

5. I am glad she is fighting all the way...
she is culpable for her part in the horrors of Abu Ghraib but she is, by far, not the only one. She, and others, have already taken down Sanchez, it will continue to go up the "chain of command" to the WH.

9. I said exactly the same thing to a friend of mine,...
,...I hope she puts her claws deep into that "chain of command" and pulls the whole house down with her.

6. And Herb Hoover didn't understand why he got voted out. Sometimes it is
just time for you to go. I agree she should not be the only one, but it is a good start.

7. Blame is trickling upward!
Keep pushing that blame upwards soldiers. First the grunts, up to the officers to the commanders all the way up the head chimp himself.

11. What the hell was your job, lady?
You were in charge of the damned place, so either you were derelict in your supervision or you condoned the behavior.

Who the hell did you expect to be held accountable for the abuse? Bill Clinton?
