Iraqi Trailers Said to Make Hydrogen, Not Biological Arms
WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 — Engineering experts from the Defense Intelligence Agency have come to believe that the most likely use for two mysterious trailers found in Iraq was to produce hydrogen for weather balloons rather than to make biological weapons, government officials say.

The classified findings by a majority of the engineering experts differ from the view put forward in a white paper made public on May 28 by the C.I.A. and the Defense Intelligence Agency, which said that the trailers were for making biological weapons.

17. If I wrote for the NYT
I'd be embarassed by the time lag - what 2 months since it was reported in the international press?

And we have SO much reason to believe the veracity of the wh/dodspinmeisters that we don't try - for 2 months - to get an independent assessment to rectify the wh theory and the international dismissal of that theory?

The reporting of the war and its build-up is a low point in the history of US journalism.

3. Well gee, ain't that the funniest gosh darn thing
Cuz I seem to remember a whole lotta non-American experts saying the same thing, oh, couple a months ago. Funny how those guys keep getting proved right, time after time after time after time. But hey, the *administration has done a fine job of denying global warming for all these years, and the experts are all against them on that, too. Guess that's what Bold Leadership means: being able to deny the truth that's staring you in the face and get most people to join you in your delusion.

5. LIARS
All politicians have a somewhat flexible relationship with the truth from time to time, but this bunch is the biggest, most shamless, out-right spinners and liars that have ever been in the White House.

Their arrogance is overwhleming! They think if they just repeat the same lies over and over again into the "echo chamber" of the right wing media (all the while reminding everyone of what direct, straight shooters they are) it will make up for the fact that what they are saying is false.

4. What an Ass
CNN Trnascript: Former U.N. weapons inspector David Kay who has seen one of the trailers and the reports on the second tells CNN the most likely use was for biological weapons, and that virtually any other explanation for the labs, quote, "didn't pass the laugh test."

Don't worry Bush's man Kay is on it...

6. I remember reading a story somewhere about a british company that...
...claimed responsibility for having sold the truck to iraq for their artillery program. (Weather ballons for targeting).

This story was published right after the initial "find" was published. The story never got legs in the US press. So much for the "liberal media".

8. I am not registered with the NYT. Did Judith Miller write this
She is the one who wrote the original BS about these trailors right from Ahmed Chalabi's lips.

12. My letter to the Times...
Hi Peter,

Thank you for finally getting the story straight on the actual function of an Artillery Meteorological System (AMETS). It may interest you to know that the UK’s Guardian newspaper had a highly comprehensive piece back in early June (about the same time as Judith Miller’s embarrassingly breathless front-page pronouncements, if memory serves).

There is much to be said about the Times. Lately it’s been things like, “what the hell is going on at the Times?” As much as I appreciate your editorial section (Paul Krugman’s columns, for example) they are of course, only opinions.

With regard to your news department -- I pray this is a beginning of a trend.

13. How can they stand by the old report AND this one?
The old one said they were for biological weapons, the new report says hydrogen.

Are they just going to wait until they "find" more on it? *wink wink*

14. But, but Bush said these were WMDs
Bush cited the trailors as proof that WMDs had been found - now what? Does that mean that Bush lied? Again?

15. KICK
Will Bush have a news conference to say these aren't the WMD he claimed they were?

Silly me.

He'll let the people go on believing his lie. How dreadful!!! And 2 months after we knew the truth. I'm so digusted.

16. But but but.... Bush LIED again - "We found them"
From a May 31 Washington Post Article:

KRAKOW, Poland, May 30 -- President Bush, citing two trailers that U.S. intelligence agencies have said were probably used as mobile biological weapons labs, said U.S. forces in Iraq have "found the weapons of mass destruction" that were the United States' primary justification for going to war.

-snip-

"You remember when Colin Powell stood up in front of the world, and he said Iraq has got laboratories, mobile labs to build biological weapons," Bush said in an interview before leaving today on a seven-day trip to Europe and the Middle East. "They're illegal. They're against the United Nations resolutions, and we've so far discovered two.

"And we'll find more weapons as time goes on," Bush said. "But for those who say we haven't found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they're wrong. We found them."

More lies... impeach this scumbag.
