Poll: 32 Percent of Iraqi Respondents Strongly Support Moqtada al-Sadr
http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=ED68C1D4-CDBC-4312-B3F6E1CF4441F7F3
An Iraqi public opinion poll to be released later this week indicates a growing number of people in the country say they support a radical Shiite Muslim cleric whose militia is fighting coalition forces.
In the survey, conducted by the year-old Iraq Center for Research and Strategic Studies, 32 percent of the respondents said they strongly support the fiercely anti-coalition Shiite cleric Moqtada Al-Sadr. Another 36 percent said they somewhat support the cleric, even though he is being sought by the coalition for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Shiite rival, who was killed last year.

The poll numbers place the radical cleric among the three most admired figures in the country, behind the top religious authority for the majority Shiites, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani and the political head of one of the largest Shiite parties, Ibrahim Al-Jaafari.

Bad news. Bad bad bad news.

32% of the country is "dead-enders and Saddam Loyalists?"

Who will tell Rumfilled about this poll?

1. His Support is Converging with Bush's Approval Rating
When they cross, will al-Sadr be the more legitimate leader?

3. Between strong and somewhat support, al-Sadr's apparently at 68%?

He's like Bushie during the invasion!

Of course, this lays bare another lie that has been circulating in the US media: Sadr's waning support. Sometimes I wonder whether these reports can really be classified as lies. Perhaps they are more on the level of wishes, entreaties with the Deity, or incantations.

"Please let me sink this shot," the golfer thought to himself.
"al-Sadr's support dropping among Iraqis," the news anchor said.

See, it ain't a lie, so much as a magic-believing spell!

9. Go ask Ho Chi Minh!
The man would have won with 85% of the vote had the plebiscite been held in 1956 as originally planned. Instead our puppet Ngo Dinh Diem won with 95% of the vote in the fake-ass country called the "Repuiblic of Vietnam" - winning 30,000 more votes in Saigon than there were registered voters! Miraculous...

But, don't worry, that all turned out okay in the end...:eyes:

2. That's about how many Americans STRONGLY support Bush
These two have a lot in common! Famous Dad parleys them into position of power; 32% strong support nationally; religious fundamentalism. Oh, except al-Sadr is apparently an excellent speaker. Too bad, Bushie.

I normally pride myself on not being brainwashed by the Corporate Media Machine, but I had thought it was more like 5-10% if that.

We are in some serious sh*t.

Edited on Mon May-24-04 04:56 PM by Doosh
I remember FOX making a big stink about how unpopular he really was, seems like Al Sadr is gaining popularity about as fast as Bush is losing it.

so his support has ballooned from approx 200,000 to 8 million?

17. If al Sadr can avoid being killed...
he will be the 2nd in power after al Sistani. July is the month that seems to be the one that may be the real turning point. Bushco can brainwash Americans for all they can but Iraq will do what is best for Iraqis. The greatest mistake Bushco made was not taking into account thjat the Iraqis know what colonization actually is, having been colonized by GB.

President Al-Sadr.

Just kidding. There will never be an honest election, if Bush has anything to do with it.
