China goes global in farming efforts
Beijing - China has started leasing farmland abroad as a new way of feeding one fifth of the world's population on seven percent of the planet's arable land, state media reported Monday.

Southwestern Chongqing municipality recently signed an agreement with the Lao government to establish a zone in the Southeast Asian country for Chinese agricultural enterprises, Xinhua news agency said.

The 5 000-hectare facility will enable Chinese entrepreneurs to engage in not just grain production, but also aquaculture and food processing.

Is Florida the first state they've leased?

1. Florida? Don't know.
If a foreign government rents, leases, or even owns land in a second country, grows food on that land, then ships the food to their country, then for 'accounting purposes,' does the second country the food was actually grown on consider that an export?
