NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- President Bush returned Sunday to the town where he was born, visiting Yale University to celebrate his daughter Barbara's graduation.
Barbara Bush, 22, will collect a degree in humanities from her father's and grandfather's alma mater today. The president and first lady Laura Bush traveled to Connecticut from Texas for a private dinner honoring the graduate.
Dinner Saturday night was in Austin, where the first parents feted Barbara's twin, Jenna, on her graduation from the University of Texas. Jenna was awarded a degree in English.
The president started his day with a 20-plus-mile bike ride on his Crawford ranch, one day after taking a spill during a 17-mile bike ride and suffering facial abrasions and cuts and bruises to his right hand and both knees.
A day of healing left the abrasions on his face looking angrier and more prominent than the day before. Climbing up the steps to his Marine One helicopter, the president appeared to be holding the handrail more gingerly than usual.
Bush is to give a speech tonight on the war in Iraq, keyed to the June 30 handover of power there. White House officials had hoped the major networks would televise.
Spokesman Trent Duffy said the president's nasty spill from his bike and the messy scabs on his face had so far not changed those plans.
