Bush Slide in Polls Could Tip Congress to Democrats
WASHINGTON — With President Bush (news - web sites)'s political strength eroding, Democrats face improved electoral prospects this fall in the House and Senate — political terrain that not long ago seemed firmly in the GOP's grip.

Recent polls indicate that problems in Iraq (news - web sites) and continuing lack of confidence in the economy are not only hurting Bush but undercutting voters' assessment of Republicans in Congress.

For Democrats, the challenge remains to translate that general discontent into specific victories. But the party's chances of winning control of the Senate have significantly improved in recent months, because of both the unexpected strength of Democratic candidates in several Bush strongholds and retirements by GOP incumbents. And the bid by the Democrats to take over the House, though still a long shot, would gain momentum next week if they won an open seat in South Dakota — a surprisingly likely prospect in a heavily Republican state. That would be the Democrats' second victory in a special House election this year.

Republicans are clearly more nervous about the fight for Capitol Hill than they were a year ago. Back then, confident GOP leaders ambitiously aspired to expanding their narrow control of the House and Senate to establish a durable majority that would dominate national politics for years to come.

15. "Let" it be true, nothing!
Let's all commit to ourselves to re-double our efforts. Get people registered. Start now arranging for people to get to the polls. Staff phone banks. Knock on doors in your neighborhood. Get involved with Kerry's campaign, and one local campaign. Hand out literature. Write letters.

Let's not leave anything to chance. If the Republicans are going to take a fall, let's give them a push. If they're floundering in the deep blue sea, let's toss them an anchor. If they're speeding toward electoral oblivion, let's be sure all the switches are set and the track is clear.

We don't have to be content with letting it be true; we can make it true!

3. the best thing about it
it's futile! The GOP has bent over backwards to cover up for the Worst President Ever, who should have been impeached long ago. It will be easy for any dem to capitalize.

4. They were denying it on the Sunday shows.
One of the NBC ones, claiming the slimy Texas redistricting would keep Congress Republican.

Are the Texans that pleased with their reps?

6. Once again, they're missing the point.
Disgusted Republicans are going to stay home rather than vote Democratic. That's just fine with me. Look how well that worked out in 1974...

8. Bottom line is: if the voters that voted for repub candidates last time...
choose to sit out the election the result would be the same as if they voted democrat. Less votes for bush et al means less votes period. Moderate republicans are disgusted by this regime more and more everyday and independents, the key center, are supporting the democrats over the repubs.

9. The ONLY way Dems can win is to get a Voter Verified Paper Ballot
Until the BBV issue is corrected IN EVERY STATE, we won't see a fair election. Even a Dem landslide may not work against the BBV machines.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Contact the Board of Elections in your State, AND in your county. Demand a voter verified paper ballot, and demand spot audits of different precincts! PLEASE, DUers, help us get active on this. Go to blackboxvoting.org and verifiedvoting.org and get active. Every single one of you can help! Even you newbies who haven't become activists just yet can start here, without getting your heads busted and without getting shot at by rubber bullets!

THIS IS THE MOST important issue we have facing us in the future of this country. Even more important that reinstating the Fairness Doctrine... because if we have no way of ELECTING a Dem house or senate, we cannot force a change back to a free press.

10. This is what I love to hear.
If the Democrats could unite for once pointing out the sheer evil of the extreme right while at the same time presenting a positive agenda for the future, it could be like 1994 again (only this time in our favor).

ive and destructive period in our history. we need total control of everything. and we need to shut them completely out of the process for the next 4 years while we straighten out this corrupted mess.
