Cameraman's Death Result of U.S. Military Flaws-Report
LONDON (Reuters) - Flaws in the U.S. military system contributed to the killing of a Reuters cameraman by an American soldier in Iraq (news - web sites) last August, the news agency said Thursday.

In an extensive report on the death of cameraman Mazen Dana, Reuters said the tragedy was preventable and rejected the findings of a U.S. Army investigation that the shooting was justified.

It said some of the investigation's conclusions "are unsupported by the evidence, and, as a whole, the evidence does not support a conclusion that the shooting was 'justified' based on the circumstances."

The Reuters report rejected this conclusion and said the fatal shot "was the by-product of an entire system -- a system which in this case demonstrated significant flaws, including the way in which the military communicates, the way in which it trains its personnel and the rules and procedures that govern its conduct in the field.

3. good for Reuters!
That they are rejecting the reports put out by the illegal junta and making their own determinations and releasing the truth as news is a definite step in the right direction.

PENTAGON THREATENS
TO KILL INDEPENDENT
REPORTERS IN IRAQ

10th March, 2003
by Fintan Dunne, Editor
http://www.GuluFuture.com

The Pentagon has threatened to fire on the satellite uplink positions of independent journalists in Iraq, according to veteran BBC war correspondent, Kate Adie. In an interview with Irish radio, Ms. Adie said that questioned about the consequences of such potentially fatal actions, a senior Pentagon officer had said: "Who cares.. ..They've been warned."

According to Ms. Adie, who twelve years ago covered the last Gulf War, the Pentagon attitude is: "entirely hostile to the the free spread of information."

"I am enormously pessimistic of the chance of decent on-the-spot reporting, as the war occurs," she told Irish national broadcaster, Tom McGurk on the RTE1 Radio "Sunday Show."

Ms. Adie made the startling revelations during a discussion of media freedom issues in the likely upcoming war in Iraq. She also warned that the Pentagon is vetting journalists according to their stance on the war, and intends to take control of US journalists' satellite equipment --in order to control access to the airwaves.

Another guest on the show, war author Phillip Knightley, reported that the Pentagon has also threatened they: "may find it necessary to bomb areas in which war correspondents are attempting to report from the Iraqi side."

11. Come now, come now. He was not intentionally killed by a rifle shot!
The shooter was aiming for the incriminating tape in the camera, and missed.

Just a sheer error in wind adjustment.
