Daniel Pearl's father urges 'public outcry'

By Nguyen Huy Vu
Seattle Times staff reporter

The father of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl told a Seattle crowd last night that Muslim clerics and Arab community leaders — not politicians — should take responsibility for the violence in the Middle East.
He called for a "public outcry" against militants who kill in the name of God.

"It is not enough to say it is not compatible with the Quran," said Judea Pearl, a University of California, Los Angeles, computer-science professor. "Let us come to our senses."

Pearl was keynote speaker at an awards ceremony in Benaroya Hall to recognize 19 outstanding Seattle-area high-school students and one Israeli student. The American Jewish Committee hosted the event.

Much of Pearl's 30-minute speech was about his son, The Wall Street Journal's South Asia bureau chief, who was abducted Jan. 23, 2002, while working on a story about Islamic militants in Karachi, Pakistan.

1. "Militants who kill in the name of God..." Does that include Israel? USA?
There's a whole lot of killing going on - in the name of God, and religious and moral superiority.

10. Of course not, silly!
It only applies to Muslims, Arabs, and people we don't like.

3. I just wish we could actually identify who is responsible,...
,...for these killings. After having examined the Berg video, and reviewing the bizarre inconsistencies and analysis found at this link http://www.aztlan.net/berg_abu_ghraib_video.htm
I question who these "militants" belong to: US or ME or what!!!

I do feel terrible for both the Pearl and the Berg families. No one should have to bear such horror.

13. Do you also agree with
that website's analysis of why Jews are Christ-killers and moral lepers?

4. Feel terrible about what happened to Daniel, but
according to Gen. Boykin US forces are fighting satan, and Israel is defending its right to live on others real estate due to God's edicts - so only armies can fight and kill for God but not other freaks.......hmmmmm interesting

7. imagine no religion
as long as we refer to ourselves as words, it makes little difference what that word is. be it "jew" "christian" "muslim" or otherwise. defining ourselves as words who worship other words like "god" "allah" and all the rest, sets us up for inevitable clash. you don't see fish killing in the name of christ.

ending war can only be done by understanding how its genesis comes from language and our ability to think in abstract concepts. three books i highly recommend for ending war.
1. Science and Sanity by Alfred Korzybski
2. The Tyranny of words by Stuart Chase
3. Conditioned reflex therapy by Andrew Salter

Israeli/Palestinian peace movement instead.

Somehow I seriously doubt he ever will since it's so much easier to call for the blood of those who refuse to buy the Israeli myth that God is a real-estate agent.

I'm saving my public outcry for the brutal land theft in Palestine that's at the root of the madness we're seeing today. The cause Mr. Pearle, not the effect.

But the e-mails that poured into The Independent over the next few days bordered on the inflammatory. The attacks on America were caused by "hate itself, of precisely the obsessive and dehumanizing kind that Fisk and Bin Laden have been spreading," said a letter from a Professor Judea Pearl of UCLA. I was, he claimed, "drooling venom" and a professional "hate peddler". Another missive, signed Ellen Popper, announced that I was "in cahoots with the archterrorist" Bin Laden. Mark Guon labeled me "a total nut-case". I was "psychotic," according to Lillie and Barry Weiss. Brandon Heller of San Diego informed me that "you are actually supporting evil itself".

9. killing in the name of god
"He called for a "public outcry" against militants who kill in the name of God."
Does he mean General Boykin, Rumsfeld, Cheney, or Wolfowitz and Feith and Sharon?

"Thou shall not kill."
