Powell Rebukes Israel for Deadly Gaza Raid
Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said on Wednesday Israel's deadly operation in the Gaza Strip (news - web sites) has made the peace process with the Palestinians more difficult, in the harshest U.S. rebuke to date for the raid.

"I believe the activities of the Israeli defense forces in Gaza in recent days have caused a problem and have worsened the situation and I think made it more difficult to move forward and get back in the peace process," Powell told reporters.

3. Screw Powell if he were any part of a man he would have left
the shrub's death lovers club and denounced the neocon assholes.

10. Yup- he waited around shuffling his cards until he realized Bush was
sinking and holding the losing hand--then and only then does Powell choose to be the "sober , reflective more stable member' of the cabinet.

He is as responsible as all of them for the mess we find ourselves in today.

We seem to have been imitating Israel's Lukud policies, in our pre-emtive, barbaric attacks on people's who do not have anything more to defend themselves against an attack by tanks and F-16's, but stones. Never mind, kill them--kill them all and never forget. That justifies everything, except we Americans do not have anything that we must never forget.

Did Powell forget to check with Cheney so that he could have smiled like Bush?

7. Gee, Colin how bout the 40 Iraqis you bombed today?
Was that the wedding party. I get so confused with all the mayhem in Iraq, I'm not sure if that is right.

And, oh you are so brave to "tsk tsk" Sharon, knowing he doesn't give a rat's ass what you or Smirky think. The money will keep flowing to israel for bombs and jets and guns.

8. agreed - screw powell
Oh, NOW he wants to be the voice of reason in the administration?

I read somewhere that his recent comments about the bad info he put before the UN were attempts to regain some credibility...

Forget it - he didn't stand up and do the right thing when it counted & he can burn in hell with the rest of bush, inc.

Egotistical coward.

13. I just finished "Plan of Attack" and one thing is clear...
Powell *is* the voice of reason in the Administration (and in Bush I), it's just that he's a voice that nobody pays any attention to.

Harry Belafonte was right, though perhaps in a different way than he intended.

11. Will he condemn US for wedding massacre?
Of course not. He wags his blood-soaked finger at others, all the while refusing to look in the mirror. History has seen this happen before, and the fate of such countries is not happy.

12. Would Powell have been effective in an administration that actually...
listened to him?

The more I hear about his behind the scenes activities, the more I think he's a good guy with no spine. However, if he ever actually worked for an administration that welcomed his advice and took him seriously (rather than using him as a prop), he might actually be very effective.

Kerry/Powell 2004?

14. Before the UN debacle I may have agreed w/you.
But Powell used his considerable public credibility to force through an unjust invasion of Iraq. He then demonstrated his inability/unwillingness to resist the will of this Administration, no matter how wrong, no matter how evil. He has blood on his hands and I will never trust him again.

He must feel screwed every day of his life. I kinda pitty him, but, as everyone's said, a backbone would go a long way.

19. this administration is so bipolar
bush refuses to criticize them
powell rebukes them

it's an ongoing pattern

powell should just quit and stop trying to assuage his conscience while still actively selling his soul to the devil
