472 prisoners to be released...
Edited on Tue May-18-04 04:50 PM by imax2268
More prisoner releases in Baghdad.

The U.S. military says it'll set another 472 prisoners free from Abu Ghraib prison on Friday.

More than 290 detainees were released from the jail last Friday.

Abu Ghraib has been at the center of the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal. It's also known as the site of numerous executions and tortures during Saddam Hussein's reign.

The facility has been used to hold detainees considered security risks.

10. Well, given they were tortured by US occupiers...
I can't imagine why they would want to throw away the flowers the US public were told to expect. I don't remember reading anywhere that torture was the path to winning the "hearts and minds" of anyone.

9. If this many...
are assumed to not be security risks - and knowing past records, that means that a good portion of those remaining are ALSO not security risks - then a very large portion of those in other prisons are likely not "security risks" as well.

11. And who could blame them for joining the Mehdi army or other groups?
If they turn to the Falluja way, would it surprise anyone? These prisoners have been through hell. People who've been through hell aren't in the mood for love and peace.
