Anti-Bush, anti-US sentiment rises in Germany
Edited on Tue May-18-04 11:30 AM by Kellanved
...
The Stern magazine poll showed 69 percent of Germans view the political, economic and cultural influence of the US on their country as being far too big. This is up five percentage points from last year.

Only 12 percent of Germans polled say the US has a positive image - down almost 10 percentage points from 2003. Some 44 percent say the United States has an overall bad global image.

The worst ratings are reserved for President Bush.
A whopping 75 percent of Germans say they have only a minimal trust in the American leader while 3 percent say they have big trust in Bush.

Almost 50 percent of those polled say the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal poses serious questions for the overall image of the US.

the polls here are 80% against bush but it hasn't translated into anti-american status, yet, thank goodness.

4. Numbers are bad news for German right.
The Christian Democrats better learn from their French Guallist cousins and reject being US flunkeys or they may not see power for a long time.

The Social Democrats may lose support, but it might be to the Greens and the Democratic Socialists (PDS), the only true anti-war party in Germany.

How anybody can consider them for being morally intact or credibly Anti-War is beyond me. Neither their history nor their members allow either conclusion.

I can say: I have to deal with them on a weekly basis, and the PDS tends to be very right wing (sic!). They don't advertise the fact, but it's the party of the east-German establishment.
