Zell Miller Blasts Fellow Democrat Kerry
Who needs enemies?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=5&u=/ap/20040515/ap_on_el_pr/georgia_republicans_kerry

"I'm afraid that my old Democratic 'ties that bind' have become unraveled," he said in a speech that evoked sustained applause, laughter and two standing ovations.

"Look, John Kerry couldn't find Main Street with both hands," he said. "You can't make a chicken swim and you can't make John Kerry anything but an out-of-touch ultraliberal from Taxachusetts."

2. This has got to stop.
Zell Miller is on the Bush team.

The Kerry team should fall on him like a ton of bricks .

There must be some dirt that can be used against this traitor.

9. The best thing is watching him count as a Democrat
as the makeup of the Senate changes. He will count toward a Democratic majority, and that is how powerful committee chairs are handed out.

I expected him to switch parties when Jeffords defected. He didn't then, and I doubt he will now. He's just arrogant enough to think he can bluster and blow and force the party to change back to what it was in the south in the 50s.

Let him.

32. Yea, I still feel bad...
...that I voted for Miller in 2002. My alternative was some Republican I knew nothing about, but I'm guessing the guy was less conservative than old Zell.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

4. If we are lucky, we won't have to put up with Zell or Dubya much longer...
They can both be tossed in the scrap heap of history. Zell defends this guy where even hardcore Repubs can't defend him. He has lost all touch with reality. He should be committed.

40. Okay, it's a stupid crack ...

but in fact it may reflect a real perception problem that Kerry will encounter, and it might be good if Kerry practiced a bit more talking to ordinary people across the country.

14. The media loves Zell Miller - why is this a news story yet again?
Every time Zell Miller opens his mouth the Associated Press puts out a major news story about it.

Imagine they did the same for someone, anyone on our side. Miller seems to get better coverage than John Kerry himself with some reporters!

35. Funny you should ask....
From Atrios...

(Scroll down to the 'Taxeorgia' section)

"According to those lovable nuts over at the Tax Foundation, Taxeorgia's state and local tax burden ranks 18th in the nation, at precisely the national average of 10% of income.
While in small government loving Massachusetts, the state and local tax burden ranks 36th in the nation, at 9.6% of income.

What about business friendlyness? Well, Zell, sorry to say once again your tax-loving commie state of Taxeorgia with its totally complicated tax code appears to be downright hostile to business! At least compared to the free market haven of Massachusetts! You see, Massachusetts, according to the Tax Foundation, ranks 12th in the nation while Taxeorgia ranks 25th!"

Edited on Sat May-15-04 11:29 PM by John_H
Can you believe it? Miller still serves on the Banking, Agriculture and Veterans Affairs committees.

Can you imagine how long Zell Miller would last as a Senate Democrat if LBJ or Mitchell were running the senate?

Do you think they'd at least point out that Miller is a cosponsor of several pieces of Legislation that Kerry has intoduced?

45. Just called Zell's office -
and expressed my grave disappointment to the beleaguered office assitant. (I'm one of Zell's constituents.)

I told them it was hard for me to overstate my disappointment with Zell's comments about Kerry. Said I find it harder and harder to believe Zell still calls himself a Democrat. Also recited the statistics (elsewhere in this thread) about how Georgia is actually much higher taxed and much less business-friendly than "Taxachusetts".

I don't delude myself that it'll make a nickel's worth of difference, but if more Georgians do it...
