U.K. Ministers Discuss Possible Departure of Blair, Times Says

May 15 (Bloomberg) -- Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott said the possibility of U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair resigning has been discussed by members of the government, London-based Times reported.

``Yes, people do talk about it and you get that discussion,'' Prescott told the paper in an interview. ``Every British prime minister goes eventually.''

Voter support for Blair has slipped after evidence emerged that U.S. forces abused prisoners they held in Iraq. A third of the members of parliament from Blair's Labour Party voted against the war, and two-thirds of U.K. voters are dissatisfied with his government, polls show.

London - British government ministers have begun to position themselves for a scramble to power in anticipation of Prime Minister Tony Blair leaving office, Blair's deputy said in an interview published late Friday.

The comments by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott mark the first time a senior member of Blair's team has talked openly about the possibility that the increasingly embattled premier could soon step down.

Prescott had parried a series of questions about Blair's future in his interview with the Times before saying his piece, the newspaper reported in its Saturday edition.

2. I wonder what kind of effect this will have on the "coalition".

If there is a leadership change in Britian, could it have the same results as Spain with the new leader, following the citizens of the country, pull the troops out of Iraq? That would sure be a devastating blow to the chimp.

This could be a very interesting dynamic. I will be watching to see how this plays out.
