Bush says won't let Iraq prison abuses happen again
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N14684812.htm

WASHINGTON, May 15 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush said on Saturday he was determined that Iraqi prison abuses will never happen again, as he took stock of a difficult week in Iraq.

In his weekly radio address, Bush suggested the abuse scandal was limited to those directly involved at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison. He pointed out that charges have been filed against seven soldiers and the first trial is set to begin next week.

"My administration and our military are determined that such abuses never happen again," Bush said. "All Americans know that the actions of a few do not reflect the true character of the United States Armed Forces."

U.S. military interrogation techniques have come under scrutiny following revelations of abuse at Abu Ghraib, which had been a torture center under ousted President Saddam Hussein.

1. With any kind of leadership they wouldn't have happened in the first place

and of course without the father of one of the GI's "leaking" the pictures we would have never known about it. It would have been one of those stories only reported on by non-mainstream media and therefore roundly ignored/discredited.

This "our system confronts and deals with it" BS is just that BS! Without the leak it would not have been dealt with and anything the ICRC would have said about it would have brought the isolationists, anti-internationalists, and attack dogs out to paint the ICRC as a radical left wing European 'Murka haters.

5. But be torture will continue as usual
in the other locations of the America Gulag. Done by proud members of *'s private army.

They are so evil I don't even have words. SEVEN! That's it? Not a single higher up? None?

They have got to go.

9. Yes, I seem to remember when * first took office...
The first thing he requested was a private army.

Now we know what he wanted them for.

Seems like he did it anyway, somehow.

He must have partnered up with someone in this..

I don't know names inv in Blackwater..

But Jack London is a huge Bush doner.

7. His words are couched very carefully...
here:

"My administration and our military are determined that such abuses never happen again," Bush said. "All Americans know that the actions of a few do not reflect the true character of the United States Armed Forces."

Notice the personage/entity separation introduced with strategically placed personal pronouns. IMO- this form of press release should be ignored. An effective response to his statement would be:

Why All the 'Secrecy'?

and hammer on that for a month or two!

The word "secrecy" is Bush's Achilles heel.

8. "My administration and our military are determined that such abuses never
be revealed again," bush said. "All Americans know thtat the actions of a few do not reflect the true character of the United States Armed Forces, yet we are the few that never follow the rules."

"So long, suckers!" bush added.

10. Bush's repeated "actions of a few" mantra
would indicate he's confidant the plea bargains and coercion will limit the scope of the scandal. God I hope he's wrong but I'm not holding my breath, after all these guys have managed to keep the lid on the crime of the century: MIHOP

14. Actions of a few...
in Iraq (even though it's about a few prisons, not a few soldiers)

in Guantanamo (even though the reports are dismissed as fabricated)

in Afghanistan (even though the reports are just now being given air time)

No, the "actions" in question don't seem to be those of a few, but rather a culture of torture and mistreatment that comes from the highest levels of this administration.

16. For once, the man is right.
He says this atrocity will "never happen again". It never will because in November, we will have a new president and George Beelzebush will pack his bags and leave Washington.
