US should never fight wars of choice: Kerry

SATURDAY, MAY 15, 2004 04:46:46 PM

WASHINGTON: US Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said on Saturday the United States should never fight wars of choice - only those of necessity - in an implicit repudiation of President George W. Bush's military campaign in Iraq.

"We have a duty to ensure that our troops are sent into battle only as a last resort," said the Massachusetts senator, delivering a Democratic weekly radio address.

"This nation should never go to war because it wants to, but only because it has to," he continued.

Kerry said he believed US troops should have "a clear sense of mission" before they are sent into harm's way.

more...I am not quite sure what to make of this story. Kerry has not given the Democratic weekly radio address yet today. That seems odd.

1. He's right...
though if he had actually voted against this war of choice he might seem a little more sincere...

4. Yep, that's almost word for word
what Wes was saying every day on the stump.

Looks like the General is having quite the affect on Kerry.

Still have my fingers crossed all of this kind of thing bodes well for Wes being my VP!!

10. I love Wes Clark and want him for VP but
I believe these are the words Kerry used in his speech in the Senate before the war.

5. I'm really glad he said that,...
,...I just wish he would have been paying greater attention when the war rhetoric was so hot and the propaganda explosively employed.

8. He's feeling his way in the dark...
the idea is to win, making as few mistakes as possible.

So far, so good.

13. Yup. Gotta' win first,...change course afterwards.
And I do believe that he will change course in an appropriate manner.

If he doesn't,...why then,...I'll be demonstrating against him, as well.

By the way, his "getting to know John Kerry" commercial is very touching and inspiring.

14. How does this play out with
the truly moral moral choice of say a multi-national force to be sent to a place like the Sudan (Darfur)?
